The top of the horn tends to blow to the sharp side. As my embouchure strengthens I find it easier to blow the top side. My instructor put his metal otto link mouthpiece on my saxophone awhile back and it compressed my cork farther than what my jody jazz does. I soaked it and blew it with the hair dryer and the cork did expand back out. Worked like a charm GOOD advice. Nice tight fit for my jody jazz now. Still going to use the Dr. Slick cork treatment on it.

Sxpoet – my wife like tunes once in awhile also even though she doesn’t complain. So when I play the G major scale backwards I do it to the tune of Joy To The World and then I ask her how she liked it 🙂 Great Avatar!

I don’t know how much of a difference it makes but it seems my best sound comes from single cut reeds.

I take that back. it sounds best with the dark lig and the Rico H lig. I will stick to the dark lig. very easy to slap on. 🙂

The Rico Orange sounds best with my Vandoren optimum ligature. I was just surprised that after trying so many different reeds that the good old Rico orange sounds pretty good. Many label it as a beginner reed. There are pro players who play the orange. My goal is to work to a 3 and see what happens. That will be awhile though.

I like the Javas but recently I ordered a Rovner Dark ligature to try. it’s just a simple one screw rubber ligature with no plates or anything. I tried an orange Rico 2.5 reed on it and it sounds great! No dark sound. I got a big focused sound out of it. Sam Ash had the ligatures for $18
