Hello guys,
I dared to resurrect this topic after watching Johnny’s glissando lesson. Well, practice makes improvement and I’m slowly doing this improvement lacking something fundamental.
I kindly ask members of the forum to share your habits and experience on what fingering you use to do glissando. For now there are two notes that are killing me.
What fingering do you use to play B(flat) for example? I’m trying to use a combination of B and F or F(sharp) mostly but when I accelerate to make a very smooth glide over all keys it doesn’t work. Using two keys for A and side B(flat) also works but not during the fast pace. I’m desperate 😉
Second note is low B or rather a change from low C(sharp) to low B. I’m following Johnny’s advice to have a full glissando by finishing the chromatic scale and stumble upon clumsily moving my left pinky. How does it work for you guys?Eugene

Thanks, Michael, I’ll get back to you when I set my audio properly for skype.July 17, 2016 at 3:39 pm #38983Guys, I’m almost desperate. No matter what I do in terms of air support and embouchoure and throat position I can’t make high G using the fork key. I don’t mind making an “elusive high G” using what Leo Jr proposed above and it works but sometimes it is not very convenient in various places of a melody. This is a picture of fingering I’m trying to hone for high G and number 1 never works to me. Number 2 works very rarely and 3 works all the time.

Any advices would be appreciatedEugene
June 17, 2016 at 7:42 pm #38249Ok, then. I think I’m more or less capable of bending a sound but slowing opening/closing the key is a totally new concept to me, thanks Andrew!
What about the second notation. Is it really a glissando ? How is it played in that particular notation ?June 12, 2016 at 8:57 pm #38140They replaced few pads as they said 😉
June 10, 2016 at 11:03 pm #38080All is good now, folks. I had my alto back from repairs and the sound is totally different on lower notes, I mean no vibration and pulsation.
June 7, 2016 at 9:39 am #37984Detecting a leak is one thing but fixing it is absolutely another 😉
I found it in a couple of pads, Mark, and realized that it won’t hurt to have it looked at by professionals. Where do you buy leather pads from by the way to replace them by the way ?June 6, 2016 at 9:27 am #37956thanks, Mark! I wish I have a good flashlight that can enter the tube from the top with the neck removed. I’ll drop it to the technician anyway for a regular check 😉
June 4, 2016 at 11:04 am #37901And yes, Peter, I’m still a beginner 😉
I use Meyer mouthpiece number 5 and wouldn’t say that the opening is too large.
Just made few pictures of it, links are below.

Interestingly enough, I just changed the reed and then bent the spring of low C key to be more tight and tried to pay low notes.
Almost no vibrating sound. Still, will take the horn to the shop anyway to have it looked at by professionalsJune 4, 2016 at 10:38 am #37900I have no idea, William, why the forum page just doesn’t show the link but embeds the actual recording from soundcloud. I uploaded it normally and pasted the URL into the forum posting 😉 Anyways, thanks a lot to all of you again for steering me into the right direction. Will inspect my horn later today and if leak found will bring it to the Long McQuade shop in Vancouver.
