Hemp Reeds, and Fiber carbon Reeds Hi Johnnie long time no see or hear, About a week ago i heard you on alto trying out the new reeds, Johnnie i think you sound GREAT !!! on alto , any advice on a strength that would be good for me? I went from a Meyer 8 HR to a yanigasawa metal 9 tip opening with a Rovner Versa ligature. I was blown away at the brightness and ease of playing as compared to the Meyer. However now I’m experiencing frustration my hi d d# e f f# aren’t coming thru as easily as they were, I to just went through a box of 3 and 3.5 looking for 1 stinking good one. Advice sir??

Hey Jeff , long time no talk!! my horn is a at least 25 yrs old it too is not a Selmer but I like it it’s a Yanagisawa, I’ve been debating getting a different horn…Hey Johnnie what would a different horn do for your playing ?Would altissimo be easier to hit or will your tonality sound that much better? I’ve been watching this guy play songs just on the mouthpiece. It’s all about using your throat and larynx muscles, really cool.. Play high D palm key , than play C# … go back to playing high D palm key… Now drop tone to C# without taking your finger off of side palm key. Meaning use your throat muscles to lower the pitch don’t change your embouchure . Here is a good one. Play middle f with oct. key
play f without oct. key . Finger mid. F but get oct. key F tone without pressing the oct. key, than produce the low F tone with the same fingering

I like V 16’s I’ve had a lot of good luck with them . Is it not good to go between 3 and 3.5 strength? Not all reeds are what they say.

Paddy thanks for the response.. I’m not a advocate of cheap equipment .. I’m simply saying my sax 25 yrs ago cost under 3000 , I think mike had a good point. In regards to Major Manufacturers DW DRUMS a great drum by the way makes a second line Pacific Great drums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i guess what i find amusing is our personal evaluations of ourselves.

Hey Peter! Thanks for the comment! i hear a lot of dissent from a few folks! I am actually a drummer and happily have got a gig with my old buds, we are playing in 3 weeks I am so excited!! i play alto for my passion . Put in as much time as i can on it. Have not made money playing sax however have gone out to local ” OPEN MIKES ” have played Blues had much FUN.
Come on guys i also LOVE JOHNNIE but i think we all need a reality check. We are doing this for the love of the art!! Right!! i think some of you guys should go to a Open Mike play what you post here, and then tell us what you experienced.. !!!! Johnnie is a great guy business man, doing what great business men do.. sell!!

Hey sx poet just thought of this guy here in the states named Jamey Aebersold he’s a jazz head but has phenomenal Blues CD’s with books transposed for Bb Eb Concert and inexpensive!!
I’ve learned MUCH!! from the man . he lives on this side of the pond in Indiana, you can get a book and 2 CD”s for 15.00 bucks. I recommend Nothing but the Blues and Blues in all Keys,

Is a Audio Box USB by Pre Sonus a interface that you guys are talking about? I can hookup low impedance mikes into it and it has a USB out going into the side of the laptop. Bill love your tone , i tried to tell you that before but johnnies site keeps telling me SLOW DOWN LOOKS LIKE YOU SAID THAT ALL READY! ( Why does it do that?? Johnnie)

Hey William you are the King of a soulful sound nice job once again! Hey you seem to have great equipment as everyone else, when everyone is talking about interfaces is it what I have ?? A AUDIO BOX USB RED BOX . I can connect low imp. mikes into it and it has a USB out to connect to my laptop.
