Johnny,
Yes, If you could remove the topic entitled "My Alto". I no longer have that Selmer AS500 Aristocrat. I used it as a trade in for the new Tenor.Dave T
March 26, 2012 at 2:40 pm #10190Hey Johnny,
Sorry it took so long to get back to your question. We've been entertaining relatives from the UK.
To answer your question as to how it plays, it plays very nice. I do have a slight stumble with the G#, C# key on the side. It seems to be a bit higher than some of the rentals I've had. I'm sure it will be fine after I get things broke in.
The only thing I was disappointed with was the Ligature. They seemed to drop the ball on that. It looks nice but when I used it the first time it felt cheap. It feels like the screws are going to strip out or snap if you go just a little bit tighter. I purchased a Rovner Light Ligature on the weekend. The mouthpiece that comes with this horn is a good one.
I tried taking down the picture that I have posted of my Selmer AS500 but I think that that is something that you have to do as administrator.Dave T

If your top teeth are on the reed as you say, you have your mouthpiece upside down. The reed should be on your bottom lip that slightly covers you bottom teeth.

Nice to hear from you. I've had a major set back by losing my surgeon to a family emergency. Who knows now when I'll have the tumor removed. My family Dr. said it could be month's.
As far as my Alto I will be using it as a trade in for my new tenor. I have rented one for the last couple of weeks. About 10 minutes of playing the first night my wife came in and said (that's you.) She prefers the tone of the Tenor over the Alto. I had started a topic regarding some questions and concerns. I ended up deleting it because I got no feedback. A lot of people like to read what people are talking about but very few have any input. Somehow we need to swap email address so we can keep in touch off of this forum.
Check the link below. I ordered this on Friday and should have it in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it's arrival.
Check FB and friend me. Dave Tucker Toronto Canada. We can private message from there.http://www.pmauriatmusic.com/en/products/item/4-tenor/70-pmst-500bx-gold-key

The grandson has already landed stateside. It's me that has to go there. They are in the Western New York area where I grew up. I moved to the Toronto CA are in 1990.
I have made a video of Days of Wine and Roses. I need to get it posted for ya.
I just posted a question regarding switching from Alto to Tenor Sax. I'm waiting to see what he suggests. I need to ask my teacher also. See play's and teaches Alto Sax and I'm not sure whether see would welcome the switch. I am currently her only student. She is a good teacher. We were going to learn a new piece in class on Thursday night. (Fly Me to The Moon.)
We listened to the backing track that Johnny had posted for me but it was a different key than my sheet music was written. She does not want me to even follow my sheet but instead learn it from the Ab major scale. I struggling at first but then it just hit me.
I hope switching from Alto to Tenor won't be a major setback.
If anyone else out there reading this message has made this switch your comments would be greatly appreciated as well.Dave T

It's great to hear from you. I enjoyed the video. I have spent all day today trying to get a decent one to post for you. The sound quality is terrible because of the laptop mic. I will send you the link when I get it posted.
As far as my back goes nothing has been done. I meet with the Neurosurgeon and he said the tumor must come out, It will be a tricky operation because it is hidden under some bone and has grown around the S1 nerve. Worse case senario is that I will lose the feeling in my right leg and foot.I have some good days and some really bad days.
I have more but will save it for when we get connected via email or FB. Keep on blowing, your doing great. Maybe sometime we could do a jam session on Skype. LOL
Oh, as of last Friday I am a proud grandfather to a 7lb 2oz grandson. Can't wait to get to the states to see himDave
February 13, 2012 at 7:21 pm #10259Hey Troy,
Good question! I have often thought about this topic. Something I noticed with this forum is that anybody in the world can read what's on this forum they just can't respond. I would much rather keep up to date with someone such as yourself via PM instead of putting something out for the public to read.
How is your new mouthpiece working for you? I had to put my back into the repair shop because it had a few issues. I rented one while mine is being repaired. I am shopping around for a new horn. I do have a couple of model's in mind. I do like the Selmer series II after playing my teachers for a whole lesson.
Do you have a Facebook page? Keep in touch.Dave T
January 21, 2012 at 6:33 pm #10240How was everyone's week? I had a great lesson. My teacher pulled a fast one on me and swapped horns. She gave me her Selmer Series II to play. All I can say is fantastic. It was so smooth and responsive. I even stumbled onto something new. I was getting the octave notes without the octave key. It also felt like I did not have to try as hard to get the note's. I can't wait until the day I upgrade.
I heard my horn for the first time being played by someone. It sounds pretty good too. But you can hear the difference between beginner and pro horn's.Dave

Last night I ordered a book from Sheetmusicplus.com. It is called The Definitive Jazz Collection for Alto Sax. It should keep me busy for awhile. It's loaded with tunes. It even has a couple of songs that Johnny had recommended to me last week. The price is really good @ 10.95. Check it out and see what you think.Dave
January 13, 2012 at 11:17 pm #10234Hey Troy,
How was your week? Hope you had a good one. I got my 2nd MRI results yesterday. I will have to see a Spinal surgeon. I have a Nerve sheath tumor. Dr say's it's most likely benign. I'll have to see what the specialist say's.I checked out Puttin On The Ritz. I will keep that one in mind. While I was searching that on You Tube I came across a really nice song called Tico Tico for Alto Sax. That will be a good one to learn for finger work.
This week my lesson was great. I played a duet with the teach. I had a question for my teacher so I took my Henry Mancini song book to my lesson. She had a backing track for Day's Of Wine and Rose's. She sat on my left and when we started I was amazed at the sound coming out of her horn. She was playing a Selmer Series II into my left ear. I got lost a couple of times because i found myself listening to her. She is going to let me play it next week. Moon River is another one from that book that I have practiced allot. This weeks assignment she want's me to put some of my idea's into the 2 songs. Day's of Wine and Rose's I had already added a few note's and dropped a couple to make it sound like what was in my head. She liked it and want's me to do the same with Moon River.
I also upgrade to the Rico Royal #3 this week. They made a big difference in the sound. A much fuller and crisper tone. I guess it's dinner time.
Keep in touch and let me know how your online lessons are going.Dave
