Leo Salu replied to the topic What's the best thing you find about this website? in the forum General Questions 8 months, 1 week ago
James ditto on all of the above, also like the fact that we are communicating with fellow saxophonists, not very many sites are frequented by people interested in
playing the saxophone. Not to mentioned the fact that the players are from all over the world, i.e. Australia, England, South Africa, Canada and the United states, that is pretty cool…[Read more] -

Hello James all your comments are perfect, you certainly add interest to the forum, i especially appreciate the peoples opinion line, i.e. my wife and I do not always agree on what we see as a good sounding song, I recently made a video on Baker St. feedback from wife I don’t like Baker St. play something else. LOL She definitely does…[Read more]

Well said Jeff. Agreed Afraid the current population is a little slow. The sax solo in any song was always the best part of the song.

Back in the fifties and sixties it was almost a requirement to have a sax solo, fortunately for us Johnny provides most of his music from that era, the people i usually play for are elderly so no problem there………also as far as kids in our neighborhood go we never see them they are all inside playing games. If you look at the views on a lot…[Read more]

My cover of Baker street is somewhat different than the way most sax players cover it, especially the first few bars, I tried purposely to keep the sound down, (i guess that would be darker) sometimes the Baker street opening sounds a little screeched to me. I guess it is a calmer cover than most like.

Leo Salu replied to the topic tips on practicing in the forum Saxophone Tips 8 months, 4 weeks ago
like the suggestion of thinking of playing the scales as practicing tones, i kind of do much of what he suggests already. One thing that i find important is to have a “PURPOSE” for playing. Playing alone all the time can get a little boring so that’s why i make so many videos, nothing helps keep you focused on playing well than recording a song…[Read more]

Excellent video, a couple of his points i have been already using i.e. find a sax player that you like and listen to him/her playing when i started playing again 5 yeas ago i thought Johnny sound was the way to go, and i am still trying hard to sound like him, i listen to all his videos all the time and play along with his full track when ever…[Read more]

William I have both of those reeds the onyx and the copper, i play them regularly but when recording i find i have a more dependable sound with the medium hemp, just a preference i noted that Johnny uses the onyx a lot. BTW would love to get a fatboy heard a lot of good things about it. Leo

James that is the best explanation i’ve had on the difference. Listening to my latest video (baker st) would you describe the sound as bright or dark?

James your information is so helpful, i just started printing it off the forum for future reference, excellent stuff, you might consider setting up a You Two channel where you could share all this saxophone knowledge with a bigger audience. By the way how would you describe a bright sound to a dark sound.
