Thanks Johnny…I’ve read and watched all of your lessons and live it Man absolutely love it. You are doing a fantastic job! I have a lot of time away from my horn (airline pilot) so I’ve been focused on memorizing scales and hopefully that will help when I’m actually able to practice at home. What draws me to Blues and R&B is how it may seem simplistic to some, I know better…It has soul and feeling and means something. Keep up the great work!

Specifically the minor chord in a 2/5 progression…How is that usually constructed? Also I found an article online that was really useful for me as a beginner concerning how to approach chord changes using the smallest step between chord tones specifically the 3rd and b7th (related to the major scale – as long as it is a Dom chord progression…Sorry if I’m rambling – learning a lot right now – I hope!

Was just about to ask the same thing…Also I love Jump/Swing stuff as well with apparently a 2/5 progression as well as the 5/4. My question is which way is the minor scale usually constructed? Melodic? Natural? I’ve been taking transcripts of songs I like and writing down there scale degree for each note as it relates to the respective chord to see patterns. Thanks for all of the help man it’s much appreciated!

Hey Johnny, nice to know you actively read these things…I bought a beginner sax Selmer Artist LTDT1LQ and it came with a Selmer mouthpiece Cstar S 80….Also came with a box of Prestini reeds size 2…I picked up a 2 1/2 Rico Royal and have been using that…Total beginner but with your techniques I’m excited enough (and have learned just enough) to keep it going…Working on quality exercises and things are starting to make sense to me…I really like how the last 4 notes sound on the Blues scale when it goes from 4# 4 b3 1 so that alone has been cool to play with as I learn each key and how they relate. Thanks for keeping it fun! Also, one of my pearls came off today and I reattached it with some Gorilla Glue…Hope it works!
