Hi James, I had a look at the focusrite solo option, but my USB Mic will work fine until when I get to record again. I’ve transposed a number of Largos and Larghettos from my Baroque CD’s I have acquired. Corelli, Tellerman, Bach and various other composers. As usual I just called them Largo and forgot to place the composers name on the sheet, so…[Read more]

    Hi James

It’s good to hear of someone enjoying South Africa.

I have a tech question for you. How would you set up a microphone if there is a distance of 12m between a microphone and the sound system?
What would you buy? USB can only cover 5m, so I guess it would have to be a XLR setup?

    Cheers
    Jeff (working on Largo etudes)

I spoilt myself and bought a YAS62. It it 200g heavier than my YAS26 and has a more mellow sound.
I played my YAS26 with a 1,9mm MP but discovered that the YAS62 is more free blowing and I didn’t have enough wind power to spare.
I had to go back to a narrow gap MP and I’ve only just moved back to a Selmer C**.
Isn’t it strange how another Yamaha…[Read more]

    Hi James

Good to see you are still playing.

You could do what I do and place all the recording equipment in a suitcase.
It could even be wired up so you just open it up and plug in the mains and you’re ready to GOGO.

    Cheers

  • Hi Mark, thanks for the info. I had found the BetterSax chart, but the video is also really helpful.
I was hoping for a person with the same YAS-62 sax I have, to tell me his/her fingering for G#/Ab.
I have tried Jonas’ Alto fingering but some of these just don’t work on my sax (my lack of skill?)

The Theo Wanne Water MP has made it much easier…[Read more]

  • Hi Guys, I’m playing a YAS-62 and trying to find the altissimo G#. Does anyone know the fingering for this note?
I’ve found the G and A works quite well, but the G# is proving difficult to sound.
    Regards Jeff

Hi Mark, the Spooky track is Johnny’s latest version in his music catalog.
    Shapiro & Middlebrooks.
Excellent value for money, clear sheet music and quality backtracks.
    Cheers Jeff

    Hi Mark
I’ve been using the Vandoren Java Green and the Vandoren Blue Reeds. Numbers 2, 2½ and now 1 on the H2O MP.
I rinse my reeds after playing and store them in a plastic tube with a sponge soaked in Listerine,
so they last me many months.

Funny story, our local shop had a special on the Theo Wanne Fire MP and as it was marked down I bought…[Read more]

Clearly a song written about Tax Returns should be written in Ab minor 😉

Hi Guys, I came across this info and found it interesting where each key has a specific mood.

    MAJOR MINOR

C Innocently Happy A Tender, Plaintive, Pious
Db Grief, Depressive Bb Terrible, the Night, Mocking
D Triumphant, Victorious War-Cries B Solitary, Melancholic, Patience

I bought the Theo Wanne Water MP out of curiosity as I couldn’t afford his metal MP’s. This is a construction change using A.R.T. plastic instead of metal at a very resonable price. I started playing it with a #2 reed and was impressed by the tone quality and it’s ability to play softly. Yesterday I tried a #1 reed and now I can play half as soft…[Read more]

    Hi Sx poet

All that money for a spinning wheel! Looks very technical – lol

  • Jeff replied to the topic Transposer in the forum Music Theory 1 year, 9 months ago

It’s very simple to use, take the Eb disk for example. We move by three notes. There are three groups of four notes which we move around. The same colour block indicates the transposed note. If you are are transposing from piano (concert) to Eb sax you move in an anti-clockwise direction. If you are are transposing from Eb sax to piano you move in…[Read more]

  • Hi Johnny
Thanks for producing this most excellent ZZ Top tune.
It is a firm favourite of mine I had tried to work out a version of my own but without success.
When I received your email I just had to have a copy, and now I have.
Great stuff, and I love the energy of your performance.
    Cheers Jeff

Hi Johnny, thanks you for the feedback, it is most appreciated. You are correct as I have been forgetting the basics for a while and only been focussing on the tunes. I’d even caught myself not breathing from the diaphragm! I will certainly add some practice time on the long tones. One issue I have whilst recording is nervousness. It becomes a…[Read more]
