Back about 8/9 years ago I connected with a young guitar player/song writer on a music forum. He was finishing up a song he wanted to enter into a song writing contest in Finland (his home). He asked if I’d help him out, so he sent me his mixed down track and asked if I could add some horns over the opening chord changes, a short solo and horns…[Read more]

I had similar experiences with garage band, horrible mix down tools. I ended up just getting Logic ProX and have been every happy with the results.

Thanks Saxomonica, feeling a bit better, pneumonia according to my doctor, I’m still trying to figure out how I came down with it, I thought it was just a bad chest cold. Playing long tones is a challenge…
LOL, I’m sure most of my neighbors hate me… especially since I’ve started practicing overtones/altissimo regularly! I’m sure your…[Read more]

sorry for not getting back, been sick for the last week. Actually, I was thinking more of doing something just for fun/confidence building and getting feedback. I’m sure the experience level of folks on this forum varies significantly, making it a contest might narrow the participation factor down. Just my thoughts.

Any interest in doing a “tune of the month”, I’m thinking most of the forum members have purchased backing tracks here and we probably have many of the same songs, or we could use blues backing tracks available on YouTube?

Thanks folks, Brother – I think I just went from F to E to C#.
Johnny, Looking forward to the next dominants 7th lesson! I’ve been working through the dominant 7th scales in all keys. In all the lessons I’ve taken none of the teachers really emphasized this scale, weird. Yeah I think that note split was more accidental than deliberate!…[Read more]

Thanks Brother! I love the way Sam (the man) Taylor plays this song, it’s almost scary… ha ha. Johnny does a hell of a cover as well. I cut a few other tracks but still not happy with them, I think my neighbors are sick of hearing me play this tune so I’ll give it some time and come back to it in a couple days…. when everyone is at work!

Thanks Pete, I’m not happy at all with the solo section. I’m going through Johnny’s dominant 7th soloing exercises and I see where I need much more space in this solo and to come up with a melody to place around the chord changes. It’s a journey!

quick rendition (clams and all) of Harlem Nocturne with my new sax, a Drake Contemporary mouthpiece (9*) and a Select Jazz 3S reed. The trying to work some altissimo in my solos, LOL… lots more practice needed.

I picked up this late model Mark VI over the weekend, one of the better buying decisions I’ve ever made. Plays and sounds fantastic, I’m by no means a Selmer snob, I’ve owned quite a few different makes/models of saxes and will still keep my Viking M58 tenors but for whatever reason the Mark VI’s have a feel to them that I really like. Fortunate…[Read more]

Yeah, I was more concerned with it being a fake. He sent me a bunch of pics and a the person he was studying with played a little demo on his FB page and he had pics as well. Looks very clean & It’s definitely a six! I’m meeting him this weekend to give it a try.

Yeah, I asked him to send me clear pics of the other side of the sax, if it has a three point connection and the large spatula keys I’ll know it’s a 7.

Came across this add on the local craig’s List, going to check it out this week. It’s a 2 hour drive but if the sax is solid and ind good shape i might buy it.
