I recorded this a few times… the syncopation in this song had me coming in early or late, I had a hard time getting the phrasing down and in some areas I just kind of winged it. I love the tune so I was determined to finish it and have a decent sounding recording to share.

Great song, I’ve played the horn lines and solo section in the past but not the melody line, lots of fun!

Thank you folks! RockinRobin, you are very kind!!! I’m living proof that someone with no natural born talent can still have a blast playing the sax! I’m looking forward to hearing your recording!

This is a fun song!! Definitely not as easy as one might think, although Johnny played it like it was nothing, the middle section is a challenge. I’m hoping I can get the classic rock band I play in to do this as an instrumental, we’ll see.

The wife and I took a little road trip to visit my daughter out of state so I haven’t had much opportunity to record any new tunes, I had this one on the list so when I got back I went through it a few times and then recorded a version, here it is clams and all. Trying to stick to my “1 take” approach.

I played along with Johnny’s backing track a couple of times and then recorded this version, I have a hard time playing ballads, but it was fun working on being “airy” in the low notes. I remember when this song first came out (1964) I was 6, my parents played this 45 all the time on the console stereo in the living room. I grew up in the beach…[Read more]

This tune has been sitting on my desktop for a couple months so I figured I’d give it a go, I’m using Johnny’s backing track and score for the song but I have zero ability to hit those low notes in the bridge something I’ll have to continue to work on, but it was fun playing along, I do love this tune – hope I didn’t butcher it up too much! No Sunshine

Agreed, I’ve got a few friends who will post their “smooth jazz”, nothing wrong with smooth jazz – I lived listening to Grover, recordings on FB and the reverb is really hideous. They’re good players but I have a hard time hearing the definition of their melody and solo lines. Something odd though, when I record I’ll sometimes not hear a lot of…[Read more]

Thanks Johnny, Yeah I tried a preset that included some hall reverb and tape echo, I had to tone the intensity way down. Lol, probably not enough.

Fun tune, but I’m still having intonation issues with G2 & A2, I need to work on thickening those notes up and playing them consistently in tune. When I was recording this I pulled my headphones of just after starting the bridge forcing me to stop playing for a couple measures but I like how the rest of the song played out so I had to learn to go…[Read more]

This morning I was working on Run Around Sue which literally suck all the air I have out of me before I can finish the song, so I took a break and played through Into the Mystic, I’m of an age where I listened to Van Morrison back when he first did this tune, I’ve always loved his music. Now back to Sue… she’s killing me…

My wife asked if I could record this for her, took a while to find a backing track, the only one I could find had this latin kind of feel but it worked out fine.
