“For The Good Times” written by Kris Kristofferson. I recorded this about 8 years ago on my yamaha studio 24 channel digital mixer recorder. Playing along with the late Al Hirt. I don’t have the Yamaha anymore, “For The Good Times” old year out and new year in.

G’day music people
10 years ago while living in Florida I bought a Yamaha Studio 24 channel digital mixer recorder.I didn’t know how to use GarageBand or the Studio Software. A $3000 machine marked down to $400. I could make CDs.So manny controls. I managed to make some mp3’s. On one track I put some Al Hirt’s trumpet and I recorded my sax on…[Read more] -

To Keep sanity in the house hold I uploaded “Stranger on The Shore” so I would stop blowing the same song. Every thing in computer world changes from minuit to minuit. Trying to upload an mp3 to sound cloud and pass it over to Johnny’s saxophone site takes al day. Hopeit plays well. My dog Rainman is…[Read more]

Ok John
I ‘m working on it. Right now I’m adding a few ornamental notes like mordents. I can’t play the sax too long since the household becomes upset with too many repeats. Like the cat said when he put his tail on the railroad track: Won’t be long now

Today I recorded myself Too many mistakes. In a year or two I might be able to post it. I used a backing track but I can’t hear the backing track. Better if I don’t use a backing track

Greetings fellow saxophonists.
I’m working on a pile of music, like “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” and many more Today and tomorrow I’ll be working on Ray Charles’s “You Don’t Know Me”. I’m adding a few mordents here and there in the sheet music and some extra notes and grace notes here and there
We’ll see how…[Read more] -

My wife doesn’t like Christmas music or any seasonal music so I’ll play Rudolph when she’s is away and maybe record it my way. You know the latin idiom “de gustibus non disputandum est’ So I’m working on some Stan Getz. The metronome is for playing along with scales and not sound tracks.

$1500? Too much for me. I’ll just keep playing my tenor. Time to practice sub tones

Ya Sxpoet
The best metronome for me is tapping my foot. When I play Johnny’s Rudolph I add other notes and side riffs. I start with Dexter Gordon’s “Daddy Plays The Horn” dadada dat da dah. I add other frases that might come up as I play along. So my best metronome is stomping my right leg to the beat in my mind. Sometimes I write the count…[Read more] -

I bought a new metronome and I see that metronomes have come a long way from the exacto The exacto goes up in increments of 2 beats.”How Great Thou Art” is 61 beats PM. So now I have the Peterson Bodybeat Sync metronome. You would need a PH.D in electronics to operate it. Not only does it make audible sounds there is also a clip to clip on my…[Read more]

RockinRobin replied to the topic sax support in the forum Saxophone Tips 1 year, 11 months ago
Regarding sax supports: I once bought a sax seat that has a shelf that the sax rests on. The seat was always uncomfortable so I removed the back of the seat, turned it around so the shelf and seat was facing me. Now I sit in my usual chair, rest the sax on the sax seat shelf and play away with no pressure on my neck. I still keep the neck strap…[Read more]

Johnny: When you play the Bb in the 3rd bar do you add a quick grace note. e.g. do you play Bb-C-Bb or do you play Bb-A-Bb. I’ll note each one. Eb in bar 11, G in bar 17, G in bar 22, Eb in bar 23,?
