Shot Gun
Still working on a Shot Gun improv. I have the pentatonic scale and the Shot Gun melody and GarageBand. I thought about it today and hummed a few bars. Maybe this week or the next I’ll have something -

Well I’ve been blowing the 6th note, and the 5th note. and the one note. Using the octave key to add to the mix. Those notes, the 1st. the 6th, the 5th, and what ever comes next can be blown using the octave key as long as I blow those notes. So I think I’m making progress. Thanks Johnny

Ok, the second and third note is up and running. The 6 and the 5, so we have the 1, the 6, and the 5 to work with. Two more notes and we have a pentatonic. We’er moving on

Shotgun. Sounds like blues. Is it 12 bar blues? Looks like there is one chord in the music, the Bb7

Very interesting Jeff. I do have two large acoustic sound absorbing panels and a sound absorbing reflector shield where the microphone stands or hangs. I have a few old towels to hang over the panels. We’ll see how it goes. Time to practice “Shot Gun” and some other songs.

I have the music in the Key of Bb, Most of the music is in the upper range, not the altissimo, just the upper range and the music sounds bluesy

RockinRobin replied to the topic New lesson Today – Reading 8th Notes in the forum Premium Access Membership 6 years, 5 months ago
Reading 8th notes. A good exercise for reading 8th notes mixed in with quarter notes is “Sound of Silence” with the backing track. I posted Johnny’s backing track for “Sound of Silence” in my GarageBand and I play along the track keeping time. And about that One eyed cat peeping in a fish store sounds like a line from “Shake Rattle and Roll”.

I took the survey. One thing I wanted to add. Sometimes, often times I need the lyrics for the music along with the notes. Lyrics help me with adding emotion to parts of the music and the lyrics help me keep my place in the music. At least when I’m learning a song. E.g, Take the song/music to “What’d I Say”. I often have to refer to one of my B…[Read more]

“Tears In Heaven”
This last few days I’ve been playing around with “Tears In Heaven” by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings in the Key of “A” for Tenor. Different books have it in different keys. Mostly 8th notes. Good song to learn.
