Pete, The Slant Sig 2 7* is my favorite m/p. About a year ago I was looking for a Stan Getz type m/p and Theo Wanna was explaining mouth pieces of the 1940s saying that tip openings were no larger than 6 or 7. Nigel McGill, sax man in England, was demonstrating the Slant Sig 2 so I bought a Slant Sig 2 7* and an 8. I like the 8 and the 7* So I…[Read more]

I’v been blowing the carbon fiber Onyx medium reed. They seem to work for me. I don’t use one mouthpiece. Theo Wanne slant sig 2 7* or 8 or Guardala fat boy carbon fiber 7*. Rovner ligatures are what I use most of the time

SX Poet, Sometimes I do a Kenny G smoking a pipe. I noticed that the late Homer “Boots” Randolph holds his mouthpiece a little off to the side, right of center

How far up the mouthpiece should I put my teeth and lip etc. This was my test today. I put my teeth on my mouthpiece and kept scooting on up until I could blow the Fork F and the low C, low B, and low Bb. Blowing “Last Date” in G major calls for a low C, one that buzzes, and switching to F major calls for a low Bb. So when I do all that my mouth…[Read more]

Hey Hey Hey. “Last Date” finally showed up in my Repertoire section for down loads. I blow it every day and I like to blow it in A major

James Buckley; Last Date never showed up on my repertoire page either. Johnny had to send it to me.

I like “Last Date” and I like to take it up two half steps to the Key of A major just by looking at the notes in G major and thinking two half steps up to A major. I suppose I prefer to play low D instead of low C.

Ya, Floyd Crammer was the piano man during the Elvis Years, Thanks for sending Last Date to me. Today, Feb. 3 “Last Date” is still not on my Repertoire page. “Imagine” is the last song on my repertoire page. But i now have the sheet music and backing tracks. Thanks Johnny

I had to go down half size on my reed strength, from a carbon onyx medium to a medium soft on my carbon fat boy 7* mouthpiece. Good match, 7* and medium soft onyx reed. I’ll be bouncing back and forth from a medium soft to medium. When we arrive in Taos New Mexico we’ll have to hunt for internet service, broadband, smoke signals, or something.

I like Johnny’s arrangement of John Lennon’s song “Imagine” so I played it. I followed it up with another of John Lennon’s songs, “Happy Xmas (War is Over). “Imagine” for Bb saxes is in the key of “D” major. “Happy Xmas” for Bb saxes is in the key of “B”. Seems like the two go together quite well. I notice in the circle of 5ths B is a minor of D.…[Read more]
