Thanks Walley. Ya, it’s a Martin 12 stringer. I’m on the tenor sax 99.9 per cent of the time. I used to accompany my sax with the guitar. Now I just blow a naked sax.

Hi Gary
Great sound. I too use a medium carbon onyx reed; sometimes I have to use a carbon onyx medium soft. Your timing is perfect, better than mine. Keep blowing, Cheers -
RockinRobin replied to the topic growling tips? in the forum Problems With Your Sax? 5 years, 5 months ago
Yesterday I was doing some growling while playing “The Wanderer”; so today I’ll do some more growls and I used the one note method for the solo and then 2 notes. I usually loose my place in the song while soloing; just wandering around

Shotgun
I’m working on the shotgun improv. I’m making some progress creating a blues riff with the Bb major scale and Bb pentatonic scale. I can read the music language but I’m can’t speak the music language yet -

Hi Pete,
About backing tracks. I don’t favor backing tracks because I have to back the backing track. I try to use backing tracks. They sound good and add to the lead horn but in the final analysis I end up backing the backing track -

I wonder if Otis Redding’s song “Dreams to Remember” would be a good song for the sax

In one of my Bb song books I turned to “Move it on Over”. It’s in the Key of G for sax. So I’ll be practicing some turn arounds with the 12 bar blues. And in my other book is “Great Balls of Fire”. this one is in the key of “A” for tenor sax. So some good turn around practice tomorrow.

Valuable lesson re: Recording Your Saxophone:
I have Garage Band. For daily recording I made an empty track on Garage Band just for recording my sound. For recording I have an audient interface (iD14), An AEA TRP Ribbon Preamp, and a Royer 121 ribbon microphone. So I don’t sound like I’m in a bucket I place the microphone right next to the bell…[Read more] -
