Ya I like Johnny’s and I like Jimmy Forrest’s “Night Train”. Jimmy Forest’s is three pages long not four. Jimmy’s backing track is a slow swing. I like Johnny’s ending from the Coda to the end. I have both versions on my music stand, both are in Bb. My new printer arrived yesterday. took all day to install the drivers, with the help of a live…[Read more]

I’m told by my computer that “Night Train” is a 12 bar blues. Looks like a complicated 12 bar blues

Thanks JB. So I was practicing “Night Train”. Slow Swing in my sax Classics song book. making the High D sound like a train whistle. The music is 4 pages so I need to turn the page. So I need to to print all 4 pages so i don’t have to turn the pages. Printer crashed, broke. So I ordered a new HP printer from hp.com. So I can’t print Johnny’s…[Read more]

So I looked in my Sax Classics music book. “Night Train”. Slow Swing in Bb. Lots of 1 5 4 and 1 4.Sheet music is about the same as Johnny’s. Trying to not drive the house members crazy blowing the High D. “Night Train” is a good one to learn.

Thanks JB. Something to work on.I can see the 125 or 241 or 251 is good for improvising. How can any of those 251 etc progressions help me play “Wonderful World” by Sam Cooke or “Sweet Caroline” by Neil D1amond?

Thanks JB
I know the format. I have trouble in the transition from the 1 to the 4515 in a melodic way/sound. Easy if i have the sheet music. Doing it from memory is almost impossible since I’m mostly tone deaf. We’ll work on it -

I need some sheet music for “Sweet Home Chicago”. I get close playing by ear but no cigar. I have lots of “Sweet Home Chicago” music but nothing is correct. Nothing fits the “Sweet Home Chicago” backing tracks I have.

Johnny,
I found a shorter version of “Sweet Home Chicago” by Eric Clapton. 5 minutes or so. -

Johnny,
Your improv course music, Pentatonic, reminded me of the Blues brother’s “Sweet Home Chicago”. I have the sheet music in G major, backing track is in F major, all seven pages. Guitar solo is about 5 pages. Too long. Nice blues. How do I combine it all or put it all together? -

Pentatonic scale. Let’s play “Sweet Home Chicago”

Let’s talk about modes. When playing “Wonderful World” by Sam Cooke I can play the melody note for note or I can play along using modes. The music I have is in A major. First bar is A major, 2nd bar is F#m Aeolian, 3rd bar is D major. 4th bar is E Mixolydian. 5th bar is back to A major.
How do I play along using modes while keeping the beat and…[Read more]

I’ve been working on some Sam Cooke. The backing track goes about 129 BPM, very fast. Too fast. I’ve been going over it for years.Too fast to keep up.
