The process was really very simple, I utilized the 2 in 1 special and emailed my second song choice to Johnny who responded immediately. The problem was on my side whereby my primary email works through a proxy server which blocks certain attachments or links. My alternative email address has been faulty for some time but I was able to us my sons email address and was therefore able to receive my second song. Thanks for all your patience Johnny.
September 27, 2015 at 3:04 am #25836Hey Johnny, good to see you are producing new tunes again after a long absence. I like your version of Sway and Urgent takes me back to the 80’s when the Saxophone played a major role in quite a number of songs those days.
I have a question: I currently have 17 reeds that I bought more than a year ago, I look after them really well and rotate them daily and use for minimum of 1 hour at a time. How do I know when I need to replace them.Should I just replace them after a year mandatory or are there certain symptoms I need to look out for that will indicate to me that I need to replace them. It can be rather tricky for those of us playing on our own because at the same time our tone is busy developing and one can quite easily be miss led into believing so while in the meantime our reeds are busy degrading.
Hope you can shed some light on this.
Best regards
RegJanuary 17, 2015 at 9:39 pm #13414Mmmm, perhaps you are over analising this a bit. The tuning track I referred to earlier has the A440 but it also has other 2 lower octave “A ” tones each an octave apart. I set up to the A440 and then check against the next octave “A ” which is lower so in fact I am checking to see if my horn is in tune in 2 octaves which basically is the normal range of the horn and it works really great, well, then again, I play a Cannonball, great horn, highly recomended. I hope you come right with your tuning. You raised some points to take note of, thanks for sharing.
Regards Reg.January 17, 2015 at 6:26 am #13406Hi Johnnny
A big thank you for posting the video on “tuning your sax”. This is something I did not pay much attention to since I took up the sax. I would usually only tune up when I was going to play with another musician on a guitar or a key board but never when playing backing tracks. I have an album of backing tracks specifically for the tenor sax which I bought year ago and the first track has an “A 440” tone recoded on it. I always wondered what this tone was for but the moment I watched your video, it immediately clicked that this was the tuning track for the sax. I am now using this tuning track straight after I assemble my horn just before I start playing my backing tracks. It has made a world of a difference to my playing and now I can hear that I am constantly in tune with the music.Best regards
RegDecember 30, 2014 at 8:47 pm #13327Johnny is right in what he says that practicing the Altissimo notes also improves your embouchure, breathing and overall tone, that I have noticed. Unfortunately with a house full of people I am not always able to practice Altissimo as much as I should. I am able to play from Alt.G to Bb and reaching those notes is all very well, but playing in that range is the difficult part and this requires lots of practice. I have a few etudes that I play which have one or two notes that go to alt G and A but usually when I practice my Blues scales I always go into the Alt range, it’s great fun and sounds really cool. Once again Johnny, to you and Baboon, may 2015 be great year for you guys and we look forward to more lessons from you.
Regards Reg.December 26, 2014 at 12:55 pm #13308Hi Johnny, this to wish you and your family merry Christmas and wonderful new year. I have really enjoyed visiting your website through out this year and learned some new tunes as well. I found “Jingle Bells” to be the most challenging mainly because it has a fast beat and there are 3 key changes as well, but next Christmas I should have nailed. I also enjoyed the Altissimo course which has helped me tremendously. I really look forward to what you have planned for the new year. Take care and enjoy the holidays, regards Reg.
November 13, 2014 at 1:34 pm #13006Thanks Johnny, I know that the position of the mic makes a huge difference and I have not experimented very much with mic positioning so that’s why I asked you where you place your mic. I will play around more with this over the weekend.
November 12, 2014 at 11:25 pm #12999Hi Johnny, its been while since we chatted and I hope that everything is going well with you. Tomorrow I will be getting my new horn, yes, I will be trading my Juperter in for new Cannonball Vingtage horn so I am really exited. I love your Christmas repertoie that you are posting on your site and it so happens that I am also working on my own Christmas collection and your material is really helping me with that.
In the videos I got to see more of your studio layout but what I would like to know is how do you mic up your horn? I don’t see a mic in the picture nor do I see a clip on mike on your horn.August 9, 2014 at 10:54 pm #12424Hi Johnny, this is just to say Howzit and we miss hearing from you. I am sure you are still very busy with your other projects which Is great for you. Take care and all the best with your projects, look forward to some more new songs from you.

RegJune 15, 2014 at 1:50 pm #12173Hey Johnny, you are rather quiet lately. I haven’t been receiving emails notifying us of new songs you have put together. Have you completed your altissimo course series? I am doing great on the altissimo range thanks to your course.
We’ll cheers for now
