Johnny, I’ve been working with this soundtrack. I have most of the sheet music. It’s in “C”. I transposed it to D major. I’ll try using modes and some improvisation. The sound track repeats in various places. I always liked “Villa Rides”

Jake, I can easily see the 12 bar blues structure in the Wanderer. It’s a classic 12 bar blues. So I’ll play around with it.

Jake,I’d like to learn some of that improve that you are playing over the “the wanderer” melody. Cool improve. I listen to you and watch your fingers. I get close but no cigar.

A little unit like the AEA Ribbon Preamp can do wonders for my sax sound.http://www.ribbonmics.com/preamps/trp I have a 12 position Input gain rotary switch and an Output Level control rotary switch. Following my preamp manual I had great recorded sound with the ribbon preamp. The…[Read more]

I would like a backing track to “Ode to Billy Joe”. I’ve been practicing Junior Walker’s “Shot Gun” in B flat. Mostly with levers. It’s long.Five pages. Hard to turn a page and blow a sax. Maybe someday Johnny will post a version of “Shot Gun” I have good backing tracks in my R&B play along book.

I’ve been researching where to place the mic when recording my sax. Here are all the recommended places for the mic and my responses: right in front of the bell…no buzz, too much like a brass horn, sounds like I’m in a tunnel. Not mellow. Bad place for the mic. Mic placed along side the bore above the bell. Not good sound. Mic next to the back…[Read more]

Thanks Mel. Think I’ll always use Vimeo in future postings. Vimeo seems to work better than YouTube
