finally started recording again, probably the first time this year! Nerves got the better of me.
The sax was easier to play – still out of time again.
The clarinet was harder – still learning to play it. -
sxpoet replied to the topic Should you play the score exactly as written? in the forum Music Theory 4 months, 3 weeks ago
Yes – my music teacher taught me to play every music sheet exactly as written.
1st of all learn to play the sheet first with a metronome.
2nd then and only then start practicing the sheet with a backing track.
3rd (optional) if you have time, learn to play it without a sheet along side the backing track. The next thing he taught me – Every Music…[Read more]

sxpoet replied to the topic Test your saxophone knowledge quiz have fun in the forum Share a Video 4 months, 3 weeks ago
wow – i only got 5 questions right.
I played acoustic guitar from age 15 to age 56, from age 56 i started playing saxophone.
i never listened to sax players, i only used to listen to bands, and like ringo starr, i never listened to any musicians and tried to copy their style.
So my knowledge of guitar players and sax players unfortunately is zilch. -

currently working on ‘Harlem Nocturne’ i can now play it on the Alto, and as soon as i can play it on the clarinet, i will upload both of them. Just taking longer on the clarinet (with less than a years learning it’s slightly harder in the falling section).
Afterwards looking forward to doing Norwegian wood on both instruments !

i spent 10 years practicing learning to play the Alto sax, even had weekly one to one sax lessons for the first 7 years with a Pro, over the years i got bogged down in working through various learner books of increasing difficulty, i bought lots of music/cd books from music shops and practiced various songs in them.
What i didn’t realise was…[Read more]

another thing that surprised me with orchestra and big bands, was the amount of people who played another instrument – ex if you were a sax player, and the band didn’t need a sax player for a specific performance, then you weren’t earning money, whereas if they required a clarinet player then you could still earn money. So to keep earning it paid…[Read more]

If you get the opportunity to play in an orchestra it’s an interesting experience.
Where i live there’s an orchestra near me, and one day a year they invite the public to bring along their own instrument and play in their orchestra. I did it twice, and they sent me a questionnaire asking what instrument i played, and what exam grade i was…[Read more]

to me classical music and operas i will always associate with large orchestras, other types of music like pop, jazz, rock etc.. i associate with small bands. i don’t know where military marching music fits in.
lots of films today still use orchestras that create their own music, like the harry potter films, so in that sense classical music is…[Read more]
