I bought the Blues course after only a couple of weeks of owning a Saxophone so was a total beginner. I found it easy to follow and gave good examples of where the exercise could be used,I still consult and use it nearly every day. The backing track is great and allows you to try improvising the notes learnt. I still can’t get that little…[Read more]

At my level learning those scales etc is the bread & butter of my future technique, I try to make my practises enjoyable and if it becomes too much hard work I stop and chill for a while.

I’ve got to stop using these “Guitar” phrases Johnny. Embellishments sounds much Posher. Can’t wait to tell the Bassist I’m going to Embellish over an A minor pentatonic with liberal ornamentations.

My daily routine is as follows—beginner level.
Assemble Saxophone and check all keys working properly while Reed is soaking. Fit MP and Reed, ensuring Reed is correctly positioned (finniky buggers these Reeds are)–check for intonation and tuning.
1—start practising scales and arpeggios using different start notes and long tones–I usually…[Read more] -

Never surrender Jak—NEVER, shove two fingers in the face of adversity and carry on regardless. Even if you can only blow one note—DO IT WELL.

Nice one Jeff, going to try this in a moment, although that high A will probably make me squit my undies with the strain.
many thanks -

Not so much a problem as an observation from a novice, Man these Horns take a lot of cleaning! so many nooks and crannies to get into. How often do you folks lubricate the linkages? I’m thinking about buying shares in polish and Cotton buds. I do like a shiny Horn.

JAAAAAAAK how ya doing mate? I’m still using that MP ya sent me for my Trevor James, much better than that bag of crap it came with lol. Love those long notes, especially the low ones. I try altering the velocity of breath etc. I like it when you are barely putting enough breath to sound the note and you get those wonderful…[Read more]

Very hacked off with myself today. I broke a cardinal rule, “never practise when your hearts not in it”. My performance was well below par even though I’m a beginner. I would have been better off brushing up on theory, or even keying the notes without sounding them. I’ve had a serious talk with myself and decided a cup of Tea and a break will…[Read more]

As a young guitarist I was brought up on the Shadows as Dad loved em, and always had them on. Now I’m learning Saxophone I’m thinking some of their tracks would be suited to Sax. Here’s two tracks that I think boogie along nicely.

Hello folks, I’m back to get more info, and get some more quality advice. I posted originally as Carl Robinson, but forgot all my details so re-registered. I was getting into Saxophone and really loved it but then life took a turn and I was working twelve hour shifts for months. I was simply too knackered to put in any sort of meaningful…[Read more]
