I went through a similar situation in HS band. I, too, played clarinet and the band director hated that I also wanted to learn saxophone.

Did it! Had to start a YouTube channel. Anyway, it was >100 degrees in Vegas, my mouth was dry, and my wife didn’t tape the whole thing… but anyone who was out there that day deserves at least a Participation Trophy!
