That is awesome Sxpoet. Hope you have a safe and wonderful trip. Enjoy.
April 6, 2016 at 7:08 am #35444Sxpoet,
I think your wife would like this because it reduces the sound but allows you to keep your embouchure muscles in tone with these strength exercises. It comes with a 44 page in depth booklet coaching you as how to use the silencer for best results and which muscles with the exercises it is working on. You also get a sound training dvd with the unit. I started using it yesterday and this morning while my wife is sleeping I can still use it without waking her. If I was on the sax or just the mouthpiece I would definitely hear about it.April 5, 2016 at 6:19 pm #35431I can tell you one thing sxpoet it really does reduce the sound. Believe me I did not buy it from Amazon because their price was $69. The price Joseph had seen was one of those eight ball price things I have seen on Amazon before which is a fluke for sure. I bought mine on Ebay from youngmusicshop out of Minnesotta for $49.95 with free shipping and it very fast shipping. My wife really likes it because it does reduce the high volume sound of just the mouthpiece and I am able to use a chromatic tuner to watch the variation and also see the pitch notation of the sound. I like it because it also saves me from having to put in ear plugs while practicing on the mouthpiece exercises.
March 29, 2016 at 7:20 pm #35191I am trying what you showed about placement of the bottom lip and wow there is quiet a bit more air using this method. I practiced this until my embouchure got tired and the muscles needed a break. I think this is good to find out early on. That is why I am considering your beginner course and the go to the daily practice routine course you offer. I do not want to develop any bad habits.
March 29, 2016 at 7:14 pm #35190Thanks sxpoet for the links to the mp3 files. I think they could come in useful. I am new to the site but think this group likes to help each other and share info on JFs courses etc. which is good to know of others trying to improve and how they did it. I have a couple of books of tunes with play along tracks but did not buy any type of course because I wanted to do some research first. It sounds and looks like JF has a pretty good system with his beginners course and then the daily practice course. I have to agree with him that when trying to learn not to take the shot gun approach or you will not improve very fast. That direct focused approach sounds like what I need because there is so much out there that will distract a new student.
March 29, 2016 at 7:33 am #35169Thanks for the info on the reed wizard. That is really neat. At $309 I will have to stick to the sandpaper and fingernail file or reed rush that Johnny talked about.
March 28, 2016 at 6:39 pm #35161I would have to choose the Fatboy. Seems to have the sound I like. The M1 just sounded too sharp or cutting to me.
