February 4, 2025 at 5:32 am #124322Just to follow up, I’m not sure my message went through or has been seen, I have not heard from Johnny and I also sent him a message, very unusual as John responds quickly, I am wondering if my message went through. If anyone can contact John for me that would be great,
Thanks,
Bill
August 18, 2022 at 1:10 pm #112539thanks Rick and John. I’ll go to work on it, much appreciated!
August 16, 2022 at 12:12 pm #112489thanks John, Thats how I was originally playing the trill. Since I started this on Urgent, I am now thinking I am going to try the additional octave on the F# at start of solo, I went back to your altissimo course to see how to play it up there however it did not go that high, thats pretty much no mans land up there. I tried lipping it up from the high F# fingering and I am getting a good tone, however its not right, with the tuner it appears I am getting a C.
Any thoughts or ideas on getting that high one? I am using a Ralph Morgan with a ZZ 3 reed. I think I’ll try my Otto Link metal with a new reed. I hope to get this done before my next solo gig at the end of of this month. Thanks again
August 14, 2022 at 11:19 am #112469John, Thanks for the quick reply. https://youtu.be/9daJrqjyFBU at 2+51. Johnny, BTW the videos of you playing on your tracks is invaluable on some of them, the music alone doesn’t give the color or articulation. I hope I can get this one down to add to my gig repertoire. You really nailed that solo, whoa on those high ones! thank again
August 14, 2022 at 6:26 am #112458to all, I kinda answered my own question. Over the weekend I played the riff repeatedly and now getting the fingers to work much better, much improvement however still not there as of yet.
cheersJuly 25, 2021 at 5:50 am #105506John , thanks for listening and great point on the pickup notes. I will definitely make the adjustment. I love the cover by Bob James, Al Jareau and David Sanborn.
Cheers,
BillJuly 19, 2021 at 7:25 am #105449My apologies, the link was incorrect. try this one
October 23, 2020 at 3:38 am #99044John,
I should have been here 20 years ago! I will get on this right away. I for the most part am self taught, so it appears I have some work to do.
I think I will start with the neck all the way in, then with James Brown advice work on the embouchure. I look for a lesson on this.
Any other comments would be appreciated. Thanks for the comments!October 21, 2020 at 8:28 am #98999Reading John’s comment, what could cause a sax to be out of tune? My horn is new and I actually took it to the shop to have it checked as I was having difficulty playing in tune. I always have my mouthpiece out quite away and depending on the day, I have to pull the neck out a bit. Is that normal? I use a guitar tuner that i clip on the sax as well as a tuner on my phone. I will try the technique today of the Bb and F Harmonic.
