Sheila your playing is sounding great but…..
do you realize you have a left-handed saxophone?!
I just noticed it.
your right hand is playing the top keys and your left hand is on the bottom keys.
This is the opposite of every sax I’ve ever seen.
did the repair person even mention this to you? -

Thanks Don, yes that’s a great instrumental to play on sax, really enjoyed doing that one!
Most of those kinds of fills on tunes like that I just use the pentatyonic scale…real easy, oinly 5 notes and we don’t need to use em all!Go thru my interactive ear training exercises I do here and you’ll then be able to pick off those simple fills near…[Read more]

Hey George, I have been including the mp3 of my video’s audio track with the downloads. you can reference it that way.
For the most part what I play in the videos is what’s on the transcribed sheet music. things like embellishments aren’t always added but these are simply signs over the notes so it’s a matter of knowing that particular…[Read more] -

Sheila thanks for sharing with us…
as I have said to all who listen; recording ourselves is a valuable thing to do. believe me, months down the road you will be glad you did. you have a lot of good things going on; timing, decent air support, reading. Keep it up and all will improve quickly! -
john replied to the topic Ain't No Sunshine in the forum Recording Your Saxophone 4 years, 6 months ago
nice! for those low notes we just gotta put quite a bit more power/volume into the air support….it will get ugly before it gets better!

awesome Robert thanks for that. I’ve done similar vids in the past where other videos are dropped into the back for greenscreen effect so I know how much extra work is involved so congrats for getting it done and up online.
On a side note…you’re doing some very good things, especially the fall-offs/glisses coming down which are a great…[Read more]

what you did could have easily been an intonation nightmare but you pulled it off, good work.

john replied to the topic Blue Moon fmajor in the forum Recording Your Saxophone 4 years, 7 months ago
if doing that procedure means you’re locked it to the added eq and reverb while recording, well, that’s a big commitment and I would only add those things after your sax was recorded so it can be altered otherwise you’re stuck with it and wold most likely want to change it.

well of course…the recording studio is where people polish things up for hours on end sometimes…you can literally turn a turd in to a polished diamond!

nice mix levels JB. could use some reverb on sax to smooth it out a bit.
hey, I used the AKG 1000 for many years, it’s a very decent mic for small diaphragm. -
john replied to the topic Runaround Sue in the forum Recording Your Saxophone 4 years, 7 months ago
no I like it, think it suits that song anyway….sometimes not but there it sounds good. But on effects like reverb and echo less is usually better otherwise the listener ends up focusing on that instead of our playing!

The middle G can be problematic with some people and some horns.
when I was young and taking lessons the middle G was never 100% for me so my teacher had me blow it for about 20 minute sessions.
Hitting it this way and that…tongue, no tongue, soft, loud etc.
you do that for 20 min a day for a while and you learn some things! - Load More
