I read he used a Beechler mp, but he used a tenor reed on it to help him create that huge sound.

great work Robert. I think you read the chart perfectly…also your video looks like it’s from the 1940’s or something…really cool.

john replied to the topic Spitty noise in mouthpiece in the forum Problems With Your Sax? 4 years, 1 month ago
anytime I had that issue it’s always been spit on the reed, not the mp.
that particular mp could be making things worse on your reed but when it happens take the reed off and have a look at it, you’ll see the spit gathered up, wipe it clean and put it back on. -

I am proud of both of you and I know you must be proud of her for really doing a good job.
and a grandson that ALSO plays sax?! -
john replied to the topic Any advantage to change sax ? in the forum General Questions 4 years, 1 month ago
Christian, of course each horn will have it’s own sound but I doubt you’d hear too much of a difference, maybe more in how they feel.
It’s my experience that the biggest things that will change your sound are the mouthpiece and the reed.
give me my preffered mouthpiece and reed to play on any horn and I’d take that over playing the most expensive…[Read more] -

after registering you will receive an email which gives you 3 options for which set of lessons you will receive.
then after making your selection you get an email with the first lesson link. the rest of the lesson links will come over the following few days to spread them out a bit. -
john replied to the topic You Never Can Tell – Question in the forum General Questions 4 years, 1 month ago
I do that all the time. jumping an octave up or down is a great thing to do to add energy to a song.
no need to update it, you can play as written or copy what I do. the notes are the same regardless of which octave you choose. -

john replied to the topic timing in the forum Saxophone Tips 4 years, 2 months ago
yes, definately. I used a simple metronome trick (of which I made a video)
for scales set it on 60. play the scale up and down. stop. set the metronome to 61. play the scale. stop. set it to 62…..etc
this works great because you can’t even feel the difference in tempo going up one number at a time. But the whole while you are playing this scale…[Read more] -

right Simon.
The song is in the key of G (for tenor) so there is an F# in the key signature….here is the problem;
I made some of the F’s in the transcription natural but the program didn’t make some of them natural as I though they would be.
I should of checked this closer to be 100% sure but it slipped by me.so I updated the sheet music and…[Read more]

right on Jake, thank you. but the work has to come from the player and you have been putting in the effort and ploughing thru because you want it! I hope the gig situation changes in the very near future. I think we’re all hoping for a different kinda new year!

ya, Sanborn is one of those unique players that soon as you hear a few notes (sometimes even one) coming out of his alto you already know who it is. that’s not a common thing.
