I hadn’t seen him being credited for that one altho he could be, but I’ve seen him credited for several other songs which surprised me at the time.. He was very successful between being a trumpet player with his band The Tijuana Brass, was co-owner of A&M records, writer and producer and who knows what else!

hey William, ya Night Train is a 12 bar blues for sure. I don’t see a need for a 4 page transcription tho…mine is only 2 pages with the solo written out.

Experimenting in different octaves is something you all should do, not just when you see it written as such.
jumping an octave the 2nd time thru a verse or chorus (wether it’s written or not) is the best way for us to take the energy
of the performance up a notch. -
john replied to the topic You Never Can Tell – Question in the forum General Questions 3 years, 8 months ago
right. I played the melody an octave higher. if I wrote it out most people couldn’t read and play it anyway as it goes past the highest note and into the altissimo range.

those bars mentioned (73) do not make sense when I look at the chart. Bar 73 is in the solo section not the end of the verse so I’m not following.

ya that’s what everyone should practice and know inside out; all scales, chords, arppegios.
eveyone will tell any music student that. it’s what I worked on daily for years. I don’t think a lot of people do it tho.
it’s amazing how much theory you learn after that. it’s practically all one needs to know about music. -

when you say you got my email, do you mean the one I sent telling you that I resent the login info again, or the actual email containing the login info?

nice JB, cool and easy thing about a blues like that is the entire melody is made up of the 5 notes of the minor pentatonic scale.

john replied to the topic Modes in the forum Music Theory 3 years, 8 months ago
William I think you’re referring to the Killer Blues course….I meant the Major Scale Improve course which is different.
The tracks used for Killer Blues are mostly generic blues that can be used over many many standard blues/swing songs as long as that fall into the typical 12 bar progression (which is a lot of them, including Sweet Home Chicago) -

way too complicated guys….follow my Major Scale Improvisation Course
every time I hear someone asking or talking about modes it always gets too complicated and makes me want to not even go there. -

the reason some poep[le are having issues is because you’re not actually paying the monthly subscription which is set up inside Paypal. you just paid the one time price….I just don’t know how that happened!

right on Mike, looks like a fun band to play with. Funnily enough we had a bar called the Coach House here in Vancouver where I grew up….it was actually in North Vancouver and was there the entire time I went to college there so knew it well!

Roger, are you new to playing the sax, or is this a thing that just started happening after years of playing all of a sudden?
I’ve had a similar thing from time to time. I never did anything special to get rid of it, just went away eventually. If it persists maybe a physio therapist? -
john replied to the topic Johnny's Mic For The Backing Tracks in the forum General Questions 3 years, 9 months ago
ya, when I used the AKG 10000 I always boosted some frequencies to make my sax sound right in the recording but with this one I rarely touch anything. It’s very good for sax. I figured any mic good for vocals will also work great on sax.

john replied to the topic Do You Love Me in the forum General Questions 3 years, 9 months ago
yes exactly. and the other chords would be the 4, 4minor to 5. and for that I’d play the 3rd of the 4 chord, flat 3rd, down a semi tone. so if the 4 was an F you could play; A, Ab, G and this would fit perfectly over that part.
