Trying to add something to my playing with mixed success. I am used to grace notes, but not familiar with mordents which I think is obvious from the video. Still need to keep on trying. I am also not used to videoing myself and this is the first video i have put on youtube as it doesn’t seem to be so easy on this site. So many new experiences Looking forward to the next part of the course and doing my best to improve.
October 8, 2018 at 8:25 am #76246good start Geoffrey. actually you nailed some of the mordents. the ones that have more than a 1/4 note value gave you some trouble. whenever you run into one of these just wait a little longer before making the move to the upper note.
try to do the mordent on the last 1/8th beat of those longer notesOctober 8, 2018 at 8:35 am #76247as for the video, putting it up on youtube is the right way to do it….we can’t just upload a video directly on to a site, it has to be hosted on something like youtube, vimeo etc.
the 3rd embellishment lesson will go up probably later today!
October 8, 2018 at 10:53 pm #76271AnonymousThanks for the advice have now seen the note bending lesson and seem to be doing that okay, so I will practice that along with the mordents which need more time. Have you thought have making members private facebook page where everybody can communicate and upload directly? All the conversations/video would be together in one place and we wouldn’t have to log in to this site to communicate which would increase communication and the feeling of community.
October 8, 2018 at 11:34 pm #76272Not everyone has a facobook account. I do not have it there and I will never have it.
October 8, 2018 at 11:53 pm #76273Hi Johnny,
Could you explain, what are all the reasons you change tenor to alto?
B.R. HarriOctober 9, 2018 at 12:12 am #76274AnonymousHi Johnny,
I’ve watched your mordents lesson back as I want to improve. I understand you explaining that you play the mordent later in bar 11 due to the length (half note). Could you explain the one in bar 16 which is a whole note. Should I also play it late, but this time at the end of the bar? I tried to look back at your other vid which was on alto, but it wasn’t really clear. Thanks for your help.October 9, 2018 at 8:53 am #76304@Harri, I used alto because I had that version on from a while ago and so I included it mostly for the sake of those playing alto. Not eveyone is a tenor player and my videos of alto are very few because i don’t have my own at home, only borrow one once in a while.
October 9, 2018 at 9:00 am #76305@Geoffrey, yes thats a great question…
on bar 16 you need to play the mordent at the beginning of the bar because it’s a whole note followed by an empty bar
if you waited till the end of the bar there aren’t any more notes to land on so it doesn’t work here.
if you look back at bar 11 and the half note, it’s followed by a note (B) so it makes sense to wait longer.October 9, 2018 at 9:04 am #76306hey guys, as for the facebook group etc, yes I thought of it but like Martin says, not everyone is on facebook.
once you are signed into this site and get to the Premium level you are just a click away from getting to this forum cause you’re already signed in.
on most lessons there I put a link at the bottom that says “questions, comments”? ask them in the forum, which has a link right there and here you are.having said that, if tons of members wanted a facebook group I would certainly do it.
