Johnny hears a question that is puzzling?
When we start out learning a new song,
our goal is obviously to be able to play it
to the best of our abilities!

What i would like to know is how many times roughly should we practice it before
putting it on the blog for feedback?

The reason i ask, is because some people,
spend several weeks working on a song before uploading, in my case i upload within a few days of practising.

The point i’m trying to make is if you are practising for several weeks, and you are
doing something wrong for those several
weeks isn’t better to upload as soon as you can play through it, get feedback, to
identify any faults, and then iron them out,
and re-release again to see the difference.

This is different to re-playing something 6 months later just to show overall improvements in playing, but doesn’t reflect focused improvements in a specific song.

In my case where i’m lucky to have a half hour lesson once a week, but unfortunately is mainly focused on doing a grade. The feedback, problem areas are identified in the 1st attempt, and re-assessed a week later to check that i have worked them out.

In some cases i have to play a phrase 7 times in a row etc..
but generally the earlier identified easier to sort out?

In my latest upload to the blogg, the
“Rosemary & Thyme” classical piece i’ve
been working on that for the last 3 months
an average practice time of only 5 to 10 mins a
day! Timing wise/ breath control/ dynamic controll
its the harder of the 3 songs for the grade.
And after all this time, its just falling into place.
The feedback everyweek on that one has
        uncovered problem after problem, mainly
notes being cut short, notes played too long,
sometimes playing notes from a similar
measure. These are all fine tuning..

yes you bring up a good valid point. it’s best to fix things early on. as for uploading I would work songs out until you feel you’re playing it very well before uploading. even then we can give good constructive criticism.
