Hey guys, I wrote out a transcription of Johnny’s solo on this YouTube video.

It’s an awesome solo, and I thought that you guys might like to take a look at it. I have it written out for tenor as it was played, as well as a version with the altissimo notes written down an octave, because unless you play flute or an instrument similar, the high notes will look like hieroglyphics to you! (Just like they do to me!) I will post a link to the imgur where I have all of the PDF’s uploaded. Enjoy!

      All the best,
      Aminn

I messed up with technology. Here are all three links to the imgur images.

Very cool Aminn–awesome solo to say the least 🙂 About a year ago I played it on the Alto with the guys here locally, but they were in the key of D, not E like Johnny’s band is here. For me on the Alto it meant playing in the Key of B (another important key on Tenor, guitar players love playing in A). That’s why it helps so much to think of our scales/any scale in terms of the numbering system/intervals–if we know those things, then we can take a solo and transpose/play it in any key we wanna play.

Yee ha! Hot doggety! So gonna hit the E scale up next and feel like a sharp dressed man. Thanks for the lead, Johnny, and spinning wheels @Ammin Ellis
Have to do a number on that.

Thanks Aminn, that’s one very sharp solo!

What happens if we change the key to Db as the notes don’t change do they?

I’m tempted to drop it a note so then it’ll be in the key of C.

Hi @Jeff so i figure band is in E we gotta play one step above, being F# pentatonic scale
If you’re gonna rock it in D, you’ll need the E scales then
To practice C scales you’ll need a backing track in A#?

I wonder how Aminn is doing at college in Chicago? Haven’t seen any posts for a long time. Must be busy.

Hi Saxo, for the Alto we have to raise the notes by 9 to play exactly the same note (or take it down 3 to be an octave lower).

For the Tenor we have to raise the notes by 14 (Ten-four = an octave + 2) to play exactly the same note.

Concert (Major Scales) is the piano, Bb for Tenor sax and Eb (Minor Scales) for Alto.
