Hi I have just got my alto and i went to a private sax lesson, i got on fine but just wondered if you think its normal to tonge every note, thats waht my teacher wants me to do, i am finding it hard to do it.
what do you reckon

Yes, you have 3 ways to articulate (play) the notes:
regular tongue
short tongue (called staccato)
no tongue (called slurring)

Eventually you should practice all three ways. Your teacher is telling you to tongue every note because you are just starting.
