đ Hey Johnny,
Just wanted to say thanks for the tip you gave me on the blog regarding my question on the licks in “Samba Pa Ti” with the B and C# notes (alto sax); it’s coming out much, much better now đ When I would watch you play it, at first it almost looked like there was some flutter tongue there and that was kind of frustrating to try to do with that many succession of notes (I can flutter tongue a couple of notes—very, very slowly that is LOL) It really helped when I read your response to my question and then going to the backing track, listen/get a feel for that rhythm, first…….and then let the notes come out v.s. reading the notes on the sheet music and attempting to “make it work” I guess I could say LOL Working on those licks is where I’m at in learning the song right now…….it is by far, right behind the Watermelon Man, my very favorite song of yours. It’s one of your songs that takes me back to my roots/upbringing, along with “Sleepwalk” and “Red River Rock”.
one of the best ways to learn stuff is by copying others when you hear something you like, and when you have the notes as well it makes it easier. even if you don’t, once you know the key it’s pretty easy to copy any lick, just take it a couple notes at a time….that’s what I do.
