Long time latin-jazz sax legend Leandro “Gato” (the Cat) Barbieri passed away in NYC.

He was born and musically educated in Argentina and settled in Italy and later in France by the early 60s. He was a Selmer ambassadeur throughout the world, and was recognized for his high-register intonation on tenor, which many people believed he played alto.
      Rest in Peace, Gato.

sorry Marc – i did read your post a few days ago.
I mainly feel its a sign of rudeness not to comment when people take their time to upload their own recordings, to stop them from becoming discouraged. But as to other posts i guess its up to the individual what they do, but i think most people are too busy with other things and can’t find the time to keep abreast with every single post.

I’m trying to follow Kevin’s advice, and only read the forums that i find interesting.

i never heard of Gato in my life, so i can’t really comment on the guy.

I didn’t even know Marc put this one on here, he mentioned it this morning when I posted the article…thanks for posting Marc 🙂 I don’t ever intentionally mean to miss anyone else’s post, I work in the medical world and raising a family with 4 kids–one of whom is a special needs’ child–sometimes all I have is 5-10 minutes free in the day to come here and check out what’s going on. There are days that go by and I just don’t have the time to be here and miss many things. Other members don’t intentionally mean anything either, so I never take it personal. Facebook is a great way to share your videos with Sax playing friends/family and when used in the right way it can be a great source of encouragement..virtually everyone whom you allow to see your videos will see them and many take the time out to comment on them. It’s a great way to connect with other players. Everyone is always very encouraging/upbuilding. Making wise use of social media has many advantages, but like anything else it has to be kept in its place.
Gato is a legendary Sax player, his tone was ferocious–cut right to the bone. The upload Johnny just did of Europa is one of the songs of many that made him famous in the music world. Europa was originally released on guitar by Carlos Santana–the same guy who did Samba Pa Ti; which Johnny turned into an instrumental for Sax, sounds amazing. Rest in peace Gato, he will be sorely missed.
