Dazza – Looking forward to hear you play ‘sway’, its about time some more uploads are aired, even if its just to show what stuff we enjoy playing on a day to day basis.
It would be interesting to hear any uploads that people don’t wsnt scrutinised as well as the ones they want scrutinised!
Theres stuff i enjoy playing that is technically outside my experience, which would be pointless for me to have scrutinised, but i wouldn’t mind listening to other peoples efforts?
The excuse we’re only doing uploads to get feedback on any problems we’re incapable of noticing when we listen to our own recordings – may be holding people back from uploading, then again, it could just be a case of people not having the time.
However if you record & play back everything on a day to day basis – there must be some stuff you can upload – saying this is me working on sway or what ever song.
Its very important to listen to a lot of famous sax players strutting their stuff, to develop our awareness etc..
but i also find it slightly more interesting to hear uploads than stuff i csn find on youtube everyday!August 31, 2015 at 1:00 pm #24664I have never let the fear of Scrutiny hold me back from uploading to Johnny’s site. The first time I ever uploaded, I had only been playing for 3 months. Was it perfect? Of course not..it was terrible LOL But that’s the only way we progress. It’s just not realistic to think that we can upload something, and there won’t be something that someone doesn’t bring out…we should be grateful for those things they bring out to us. There has only been 1 time that Johnny said he didn’t have much to say for me, and that was when I did “Tequila”…the only problem he said was that I didn’t say “Tequila” at the end LOL. I didn’t even have recording software or a half-way okay microphone. I could hardly even get a high F# at that time! 🙂 On a side note, I’m looking at getting a good, high-quality mic with a USB audio Interface sometime after we move into our new house…that will REALLY help improve the quality of the recording, along with some things I’ve learned as to where to place the mic, etc.. I’ll be uploading here ASAP; I’ve got loads of stuff that I haven’t shown anyone, but will start to do that here pretty quickly with the upcoming Talent show I have in November. No worries about the uploading..by the time I’ve done all this uploading and my audition comes in December, you’ll be tired of seeing me upload to Johnny’s blog LOL
DAZZA: “Sway” would be really cool to see you do, it’s got that “cha, cha, cha” feeling to it 🙂 Sorry, but if there’s no Altissimo in Johnny’s song of Sway, I’m going to make sure I find some spots for it anyway LOLSeptember 1, 2015 at 1:09 am #24691AnonymousSorry Michael – i keep forgetting we only do uploads on this site to help us improve our playing, via the feedbsck from JF, and other experienced players (don’t include me in that list – lol)
It’s a common failing in human nature to easily spot the faults in someone elses performance and be completely unaware of our own mistakes. Hence the saying ‘Love is blind’ i think also applies to our own performances.
The main thing is the fun factor – keep at it and im sure you’ll get to go where you intend to go with it
September 1, 2015 at 1:23 am #24692I agree with u James. It is nice to see the progress of others through there uploads and enjoy the sax. As we get more experienced the improvements become more slow and subtle as compared to when we first start. I have various material I have worked on with my guitar friend and I know my short comings with those jams. Of course I’d be open to criticism but I do know areas that I need to work on and improve upon. It’s a fun journey and escape for me not a race. I will have to post some more even tho I know it can be improved upon.
September 1, 2015 at 5:12 am #24701Great point guys–I think sometimes people can forget that it’s all about fun, enjoyment, love of music., etc.. That’s the great thing about music is that because people express themselves in so many different ways through so many different kinds of instruments. Cool video of Hotel California you just shared Jake 🙂
