I am at work will look to play this late tonight or attempt to. I just want to ask “Is page one the first time through the song? It does not seem like it to me. The second page will be quite the challenge for me. Even though I have been on this site for a while I do not get a lot of practice time through the week Unfort. Vinny
November 13, 2014 at 1:33 pm #13005AnonymousHey Johnny – Just had a go at playing Silver Bells,
and thanks to the practice i put in on your ‘Daily
Practice Routine’ – the 2nd part was no different to
playing anyother scale!! Hats off to you for providing
such a well thought out routine!I was in the waiting room today listening to
my sax teacher going on and on about the importance
of scales to one of his pupils who wanted to do
improvisation! I just sat there grinning!November 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm #13007Quote:I am at work will look to play this late tonight or attempt to. Vinnyyes, it is and you’ll notice near the last line the big key change. this will show you the importance of being proficient with all the scales. even tho it’s not too common to play a song in C#, F# etc there are those times!

such a well thought out routine!Great to hear! I can’t stress enough about the importance of everyone to spend lots of time playing thru all the scales. those that are doing that Daily Practice Routine and those going thru the How To Play The saxophone ebook course know that all the scales are there and I didn’t put them there just to fill in the space! As you mover forward with your playing, reading and hop[efully improvising you are going to need to be proficient with those and as I lay out more courses on theory and improvisation as I’ am planning to do, the major scales are definatetly a prerequisite.
November 13, 2014 at 2:25 pm #13011AnonymousAlso forgot to add!
Because you put the arpeggios in at
the end of every scale,
i now know a lot more chords on the Sax!
I’ve now started playing the chords one after another,
Starting on the bottom key and working my up
the sax , had to do it slowly at first, but starting
to speed up.November 13, 2014 at 6:30 pm #13015AnonymousAnd all of you are so right. I need to get the daily practice routine, I will never be able to play and to improvise without it, please show me where its at and I will get it, vinny
November 13, 2014 at 7:05 pm #13016vinny, I can’t remember if you’re playing alto or tenor but either way, in Silver bells the tenor starts in F and modulates up to F#. The alto starts in C and modulates up to C#. These 2 starting keys of F and C are two of the easiest then jump up to 2 of the hardest (most sharps). But it shouldn’t be that way because if we work diligently on all keys one is not harder than the other. It’s all in the mind. Remember to work everything out slowly (it’s not a race) at first and don’t speed up until you’re playing without mistakes. Anyway, here is where you can get the Daily Routine:
