When I started on this saxophone journey back in April I decided to rent a Sax to see if it would be something I would want to continue to pursue. I was blessed in getting a new Selmer Soloist Student Tenor Sax to learn on. My enthusiasm continues to grow every day to learn to play this great instrument. So I don’t continue to have payments renting I decided to buy a Sax. As long as I was buying one I decide to jump up to an Intermediate Sax. Thus the Selmer La Voix ii. Musician’s Friend had a Labor Day sale 15% off and this Sax qualified for the discount. Also a 45 day hassle free return policy. The Sax came in the Selmer High Quality Standard Condition. Perfect tune right out of the case. Very smooth keys and very free blowing. I am continuing to use my Yamaha 4c mouthpiece for now but have a Jody Jazz 5* mouthpiece waiting on the shelf. Sax is beautifully engraved. I have had great experiences with purchasing from Musician’s Friend on the Web. I am extremely happy with this purchase!

Sounds real nice Mel, and good for you.
I’d be very curious to that mp change-over.
if you do it at the right time it could mean a pretty good sized tone improvement.

I put the Jody Jazz on just to try it because I bought it with the Sax. It was a big brighter and fuller tone. I told my instructor that I ordered the Sax and mouthpiece before it came. I told him I would wait on putting the new mouthpiece on until he thought it was right. I have a really great instructor. I am anxious to play the new mouthpiece though.

I tried early on playing a 2.5 reed and quickly decided to go back to the 2.0 reeds until I had better strength with my embouchure. I had read about the Rico plasticover reeds and started playing those in the 2 strength. The new Sax came with a Gonzalez 2.5 reed and I thought what the heck I will put it on and try it. To my amazement I was able to play the reed well. Compared to the plasticover reed my wife said wow it sounds creamier. I ordered a box of the Gonzalez reeds to use when I use up some of the plasticover and Rico reeds I have. The Gonzalez reeds are made in Argentina.

Last night I had a lesson with my instructor. I asked him to play my new Selmer La Voix ii Tenor sax with the Jody Jazz 5* HR mouthpiece so I would know what I might someday sound like. He said he wanted to hear me play, but he played it. He played “In The Mood” plus some Jazz licks and WOW! Big full warm sound. He easily hit all high and low end notes. It was fun to watch his face while he was playing and trying to figure out all he was hearing. It just makes me all the more exited to continue to work hard.
