Hello everyone. 40 year old with some piano and (very minor) clarinet playing historically. Interested in learning sax. Work by day, curious to pick this up as a relaxed habit. Nothing professional, but would be nice to play smoothly someday before 80 yrs old, 🙂

I;ve tinkered around with my sax, and stumbled across Johnny’s website. Had no major problem playing the C-scale with ease (though hitting the low-C is not always easy). I have played the scale up and down multiple times. Great first exercise.

Curious what “First” sax people here are using? I have a used Yamaha YAS-23. Using a 4C mouthpiece and Rico 2.0 reeds (alternating between Rico, Rico Royal and Hemke until I find what I like best, but I’m just a newbie so time to figure it out…)

Ira, you’re on the right track, nice horn and good setup for getting going.
You should be able to blast that low C out and even lower…just increase air pressure and blow really loud as you approach it.
