      Hey guys. I finally got recording recently as you may have seen and in the end I went with the Shure SM57 with the X2U signal adapter staight in to my laptop. I grabbed the free version of Audacity for now as it does all I need by the way of recording multiple tracks while playing the backing track back to my headphones via the x2U. It’s pretty cool and good sounding and highly portable. Total cost including laptop $690. I dispensed with the digital interface which meant a lot more leads and messing around. I bluetooth the lap top to my portable battery powered amp (birthday present – $235) but even sounds great through my computer speakers. Hope this helps some of you…..

      Will try to post pics again though it didnt work last time. Heres hoping.

        @dazza – recording setup sounds great to me. i did read somewhere about if you play in front of a music stand, you can get interference with the music stand, something to do with the sound waves – but it doesn’t appear to make any difference.

        i was able to see both photos you posted. in terms of sharing stuff – i recently tried out soundcloud for music eg

        and dropbox for sharing music sheets eg
        https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x3o55qal1tpa33h/AACSavkH2wCJ5855J9MZnDiha?dl=0

        not sure if there are any other better sites for sharing music, photos and music sheets? if anyone else can suggest some good free sites?

          Microphones: I finally had to go with an interface. I have this ribbon mic, a Royer R- 121 Studio mic. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/R121

          and this Audient iD14 interface,http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iD14

          Hope they work for me. I’ll have something recorded whenever I get every thing humming together. This my set up now.

            sxpoet, your timing has gotten better… you were groovin along to that very nicely, I wanted to hear a couple “blasts” tho!

            Ribbon microphones are good voice mics therefor they’re good sax mics too.

            Dazza, you coulda done much worst than a sm57. I love them for live but for under 100 bucks they’re a decent studio option as well. they beat out the sm58 which are the very popular live vocal mics (with the round ball) because the 57 have a crispier top end which is good for sax….they are popular mics for snares, guitar amps, and acoustic guitars as well.

            As for being in front of a music stand while recording, it’s ok as long as you move it off to the side a bit and don’t let it act like a wall between your sax and mic

              @William
              – looking forward to hearing an upload with your new setup!

              @Johnny
              – thanks for the music stand tip!
              My recording was just a test run to hear what my guitar, and sax sounded when recored with 2 mic’s,
              with a mix of 3 different drum loops. A total of 7 tracks, adjusted through the equaliser, and finally through the compressor to make them gel together.

              Timing is the big area i am focusing on this year, gone back to grass roots, working a lot of sheet material to up my game.

                  William – thanks for sharing, i bought this microphone which is similar
                  to the shure sm57
                  https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/condenser-instrument-microphone/akg-c1000-s-mk-iv-condenser-microphone#specs

                  but later i hope to buy this microphone
                  https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/condenser-instrument-microphone/akg-c-414-xlii-condenser-studio-microphone#specs

                  which is affordable enough for me to buy, but at the moment, i’m sticking
                  with the akg c1000s and the akgc519m clip on mic. i record with both of them, to separate channels.
