Can anyone recommend a good mic that I can buy to plug into my USB port for my CPU to record with? I got a modest one a couple months back that is certainly better than relying on the built-in mic on my cpu for blog uploads and all but lacks in recording quality when it comes to the volume. In about a year, when my Saxophone skills are ready for it, I planned on setting up a small, modest home-recording studio. Thought I saw a website or info that Johnny has about home recording/how to get started with home recording?

I took to ebay as Kevin did and found much of the same stuff relatively cheap! This is a nice way to do some recordings that can sound pretty professional and cost me around $150. Thanks to Kevin for the ideas. What is nice with the recorder too is that there are drum loops which can set you up for improvising and practicing. I use it even without recording a track. It is a nice little investment that can act as another tool to help us in our learning of the beastly saxophone!! Good Luck!
January 22, 2014 at 9:39 am #11571Thanks Jake, I’ll check this out for sure as this could make a neat little project to undertake when we get our tax return in the weeks to come. The problem with the mic I have right now–it’s nothing special by any means–is that it just doesn’t capture AT ALL the volume coming out of my Saxophones while I’m playing. An example is Fly Me to the Moon that I just did to the blog, I started off the song very softly but REALLY played LOUD after the first few measures and believe me…….it was LOUD here. The mic just doesn’t capture/record it, but is certainly better than the built in Mic that a webcam uses. The song almost sounds like the tone is the same all the way through and it wasn’t by any means. It’s so loud in the house that not only does it resonate in my head but my wife has to shut 3 doors of the house leading into the back room where I’m practicing at-LOL-and even then it’s loud for her. At certain times of day she doesn’t mind at all but loves to hear the Saxophone resonate in the house, it’s just when she’s on the phone or something–I asked her jokingly if she will still feel the same when I get a Guardala MP in the spring? 😉 But the little mic I have right now simply doesn’t capture the true essence of it. Thanks for the lead, definately will check this out.
