Well, after years of playing vintage horns, I finally decided to try something a bit different. I sold my Conn Chu Berry Tenor, and got this P. Mauriat Tenor. It has a pretty rich tone, and great ergonomics with the key work. I tried a few other new horns too, including Yamaha, Selmer, Cannonball, Etc, and this one came out on top for me at least. I am very happy with the horn! (Still hoping one day to get my hands on a Mark VI!) 🙂 Never thought I would play a sax from Taiwan, but they seem to have come a long way! Thanks for checking it out!
Lou
well its all about be happy and satisfied,, what MP are you going to choose
Brother Cavefish! I hope you’ve been well!
I actually got a custom mouthpiece made by SYOS about 2 months ago, which is a pretty neat company based out of France. I went with a 7* opening, high baffle, with a large chamber. I like how diverse it can sound. It can scream in Rock and Roll tunes, play smoothly in a swing chart, and soft and warm in a ballad. I’m super happy with it.
sweet, just got me some sweet ones too, theo wanne Ambika in HR and a metal one, 10mfan Merlot, and a philtone intrepid
Pretty impressive names there! How do you like the one from 10mfan? I have wanted to give them a try.
did not get it yet in the mail, the only one i tried is the ambika rubber, sweet
I have the 10M FAN MERLOT (TENOR) and I am very happy with it, not quite happy with the lig I am using which is a Marc Jean Artistry (700) it needs to be really tight on reed to stop it slipping. Need to find the best lig then I would be pleased with the M/P.
Louis Nice playing on Blue Christmas, is that with your new set up.
i like the rovner dark, its fast and fit all my rubbers, also BG Duo is a nice one
I have the rovner dark BC yea good lig for the price but still not happy with it on the 10M FAN?
I definitely need to get my hands on one of these 10mFan Mouthpieces now. Sounds like a great product! I have always used Rovner ligatures, though I can not honestly tell much of a difference between the dark and light honestly. But, that could just be me. They work pretty good on most of my mouthpieces.
@pete That song is with the new horn/mouthpiece. They seem to pair together well in my opinion. I am happy with it.
