Here’s my Benjamin Tenor Sax. Gold Laquered, gorgeous tone, key action is almost better than my Selmer Reference 54 Tenor. Let me know what ya think.
January 25, 2015 at 1:57 pm #13448wow so beautiful! I had no idea. Looks like real quality and I’ve never heard of them!
January 25, 2015 at 2:07 pm #13449Thanks, it’s quite the player. I’ll post a video of me playing some scales and warm ups on it.
January 25, 2015 at 3:06 pm #13452Anonymouswow – when someone displays a Sax,
you think you’ve seen them and all!
From mini’s to rollsroyces…
My sax looks like the poor man compared
to some of the beauty’s people have!January 26, 2015 at 4:32 am #13454Thank you both. I’ve had it for about 2 months now. I might be getting a Selmer Series III Tenor in the next few years.
January 26, 2015 at 4:41 am #13455Anonymouscool – i’m hoping to upgrade from my
intermediate alto to a reference 54 in
3 years time when i’ve done my grade 5
(sort of reward incentive)January 27, 2015 at 1:31 pm #13466sxpoet, how many years have you been playing? I’ve only been playing for 4. Planning on a Reference 54 Tenor or Alto? Because, if you did not know, the reference 54 is sort of based off the legendary Selmer Mk Vi, Which I believe Johnny has. I’ve played on a ref 54 tenor, and I highly recommend it!
January 28, 2015 at 4:59 am #13468Anonymousjhurst- i started playing the alto sax 14 months ago,
and passed my abrsm grade 2 last november.
Trying to do a grade a year, & doing a
1 year music theory course at the same
time – which is a great help!I’d like to upgrade to an alto ref 54,
i haven’t got the itch for a tenor or
a soprano. But i’m learning in the
shadow of a pro sax player which
really helps! in terms of setups,
how you breathe, handle the sax etc
useful short cuts in fingering, sight
reading playing etc..
But i’ll see in 3 years time and try out
the ref 54, i know some people prefer
yani’s to the selmer – i guess thats the
way it goes!got a thewanne rubber durga 3 blue no.7
mouthpiece on order – can’t wait to
try it out. Apparently its made of a
new material that isn’t ebonite and
is supposed to be slightly different! How abour yourself – have you done
any grades, played in bands & the
like?January 28, 2015 at 2:14 pm #13471Where I am, my band doesn’t do grades nessecarily. I didn’t mention I’m a freshman, started 4 years ago in sixth grade. So not too much experience. But I play with one of the best high school bands in my state. As for me, of course I’m playing on my Benjamin Tenor, with what I found out is a Chinese copy of the Selmer C Star. It is black hard rubber with C* inscribed on the side. And Rico Select Jazz Unfiled Reeds. Regular Metal Ligature, haven’t looked into ligs yet.
January 28, 2015 at 2:23 pm #13472Solid J.
Hold off on the ligature cause I’ve got a line on the one I’ve had for years which is the best one on the market (not the most expensive tho).
I’ll be talking more about this shortly.
