Hey Johnny….great idea with coming out with 2 versions on Imagine. I was actually thinking that same thing with your previous song “Misty.” I really like your upbeat version of this classic ballad. But I also very much like the full ballad version as well. Any chance of you providing a 2nd version of “Misty” too? Thanks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92mHdGVFV8ks is the best you will hear imo.92 years of age give or take a couple of years.January 17, 2019 at 6:36 am #80497Thanks for the reply Pete! I have heard (seen) Aubra play Misty along with many other tunes on his Conn tenor. I’m sure Mr. Graves is still playing at 92 but I believe his sons recorded most of them when he was in his mid 80’s…for sure an inspiration to keep playing! I’ve heard other greats play this ballad as well. I just wanted to check in with Johnny to see if it’s possible to get his ballad version along with a backing track.
KennJanuary 17, 2019 at 8:57 am #80500yes maybe, I’m in the middle of putting together a bunch of others at this point tho, so kinda hard to go back to Misty right now.
that older guy’s version was killer tho!
as for the Imagine one….the intro video I put up yesterday was to show how I will make 2 versions of the music sheets; one how I will play it (very close to Lennon’s melody etc) and another one which will be more stripped down so novice readers can get though it. So I won’t be recording 2 versions, just supplying the 2 music sheet versions….sorry for any confusion.January 17, 2019 at 11:16 am #80512Johnny….that would be great if you could. I plan on getting it and your Imagine when complete. While I’m at it I want to say thanks for the embellishing tips (vids). Excellent!
The old guy is Aubra Graves. I came across him a few years back and did some research on him. He is probably the best unknown tenor saxophonist out there. I believe he’s from Waco TX. Google him and you will find a bunch of tunes his sons recorded and put up on youtube.

January 23, 2019 at 2:56 pm #80808Johnny…Thanks for doing the ballad version of Misty. As promised I purchased it & Imagine. I assume you are going to NAMM 2019. If so have a great time! Thanks again.
KennJanuary 25, 2019 at 8:34 am #80913Johnny,
I love what you did with “Imagine” and “Misty.” Definitely gives me something to work on. Last night, I downloaded the ballad version of Misty and it was sweet! My wife said, “You didn’t have much trouble with that one!” Of course, she doesn’t know that the arrangement with the two tempos is also my goal!Keep up the great work, Johnny! If you’re at NAMM, enjoy yourself and come back revitalized… If you’re not, maybe we’ll see each other at next year’s NAMM.
All my best.
