Hey Johnny,
Just wanted to say really quickly you did an amazing job on Soul Serenade–that has got to be one of my all-time favorite songs from King Curtis…and it was on Soprano Sax 🙂 Not everyone thinks of the Soprano when they think of King Curtis and it was a real eye-opener to me the first time I saw a video of him playing it. I know not everyone here on your site is a fan of the Soprano, but I sure love the sound of it for many kinds of music. Lots of people in general love it too….I just don’t like the way Kenny G plays it. I’ve seen a post here on your site whether or not someone should get a Soprano and I think the bottom line is that if someone loves it & plans on using it regularly, then get one. To me it’s a Saxophone and the Saxophone is just plain awesome–I read a survey recently online somewhere and it said the Sax ranked 2nd as the most romantic Instrument in the world, pretty cool 🙂 Thanks for doing Soul Serenade 🙂 Will be getting it here pretty soon.February 25, 2016 at 10:58 pm #33387AnonymousHi Michael, where can we find this recording of Soul Serenade by Johnny?
I think that the best sax for a song depends on that particular song’s topic and pace. I’m really enjoying playing my Soprano as it has a strong character like the Tenor. If I was going to buy new saxes I would only buy a Soprano and Tenor, as these two will cover all the moods from the fast cheeky numbers to slow soulful blues.

February 26, 2016 at 5:32 am #33409That’s something how different kinds of music can appeal to different folks in different parts of the world. I know here where I live in the southern United States where the Blues originated, these types of songs are HUGE here and folks love it. Guys like King Curtis, Big Jay, Lee Allen, Illinois Jacquet, Junior Walker (the list goes on and on) all mostly come from this region where I live. King Curtis is from Texas, Lee Allen is from Louisiana, etc.. King Curtis has his song of Memphis Soul Stew, Memphis is only 2 hours from me. He does have a song in his Rock and Roll album where he talks about being in Little Rock, which is where I live. So yeah, this music is HUGE here and I’m psyched that Johnny makes this great stuff available..no one else is doing it. I really do feel fortunate to live here in the southern US where all of these legends came from; the heritage of Blues/Rock on the Sax runs deep here–pretty cool feeling to live here knowing all of that 🙂 I have personally talked to some older folks who saw King Curtis live in concert and his performances still stand out in their minds after all these years; that’s amazing but goes to show just how good he was. I was assured that you really don’t realize just how great the guy was until you see him play in person…unfortunately that won’t happen for me! That would have been awesome to see!

its mainly the kids that learn to play a musical instrument get more into to playing stuff from previous generations by their teachers, then the grow up and bring out their new kids on the bloc music.
