Hi Johnny,
Talk about feeling good today for my Blues Brothers Instrumental in progress…I was doing some stuff around the house as we’re headed out to Missouri tomorrow–my son is buying his first car; he saved up his own $ for it..very proud of him :)–I heard some Saxophone playing on the radio and a “lightbulb” went off in my head regarding licks/riffs. I virtually stopped what I was doing and played around with some the licks/riffs that were going in my head….NAILED my solo! It really hit the spot, given the rhythm of the track, style of playing, etc.. I always have tried to approach solos/Improvisation with a goal of building tension and then “relieving” that tension, etc.. and hitting the right notes, at the right time, can really make that happen. In this song, the minor 3rd and flat 7 will help make that happen…I’m throwing in a few flat 5 notes too. It’s amazing sometimes, just from listening to someone do something, it can spur/create some ideas for us 🙂
