Hi Guys, I heard a Dr speak about this principle on Sat TV a while ago. I tried it and I lost 3kg and my wife lost 4kg in just five days. When we exercise at the gym our weight comes down even quicker.
Our bodies function better when we eat for a period then fast for a period. During the fasting period the blood sugar level drops until more food is required, and then the body breaks down body-fat to use as fuel. The problem is that this only takes place 12-13 hours after our last meal. Most of us drink coffee or tea hours after our last meal. The sugar in the drinks causes our blood sugar levels to rise again and we never reach the low levels required to break down our accumulated body fat.
To achieve a healthier state we should only drink water after our last meal, until we breakfast again in the morning.
The ideal is to have an 8h eating period and a 16h fasting period in our 24h day. What we did was to slowly reduce the eating period, so we are now on a 12h – 12h level. Perhaps later we can progress a little further but I do love my tea! If like me you don’t like drinking lots of plain water, just add a squirt of lemon juice to give it a citrus taste. What we have found is that we lose weight, sleep better and feel generally better. This has nothing to do with saxes but if we feel better and are more rested, then we will play better. Cheers to good health!
February 4, 2016 at 2:23 am #31875Anonymousi stopped having sugar in tea and coffee decades ago, but i do have sugar in coffee in a cafe because i find the taste too strong.
I also stopped having butter or margarine on bread years ago, after i read an article by a famous heart surgeon in S Africa, what it does to your arteries.
Good points, i need to rein in tucking into cake & biscuits during the daytime, before my beer belly turns into a keg.
I find a 30 min exercise or a brisk 1hr wslk clears the brain.

More importantly (haha) is that it might help our breathing for the sax. When swimming, you take a short sharp breath, and then release it slowly, much like the sax. And by taking less breaths for each stroke I guess you can improve your stamina. All I know is one day after swimming, I did a work out on the sax, and felt a lot more in control of my breathing.
