Yeah, it definately helps when we can hear pro players like Johnny v.s. just reading about the scales, etc. in so many books out there. They’ll fill our minds with all kinds of info, but don’t really give us any direction with it–how to actually use the stuff in our playing…and that’s why Johnny is so good at teaching this stuff. Doesn’t do any good to learn about Improvising with scales and what if we don’t walk away with it knowing what in the world to do. If you listen carefully, we can see it all boils down to what he’s been talking about how some of the greatest solos are played with less than a Fifth of the scale. The thing about it is not just playing them, but look at how he’s playing it…he’s killing it here; good stuff 🙂
