Gary here. I’m new to the forum and about 5 months into learning tenor sax. I was looking at the courses available. Was considering the daily practice routine course and also the altissimo course. Any comments or thoughts on these courses, or recommendations? Thanks.

welcome Gary – don’t waste money trying to get a better tone by buying different mouthpieces, aint gonna happen! – just buy the ‘daily practice routine’!

My tone improved in a month, by 6 months my tone sounded great!
i would buy the ‘Altissimo course’ 6 months down the line!
The 1st two lessons of the ‘Altissimo course’ are an extended version
of the ‘daily practice routine’ – i wouldn’t be in a hurry to do the
altissimo,as most of the sheet music hardly goes beyond high F#.

If you intend to go down the improvising route – then altissimo is great
for that! As yet, a year since doing the altissimo course, i still haven’t played any songs with altissimo in it.

Thanks for the response James. Nice to meet you. I notice in exercise 1 of the Daily Saxophone Practice Johnny is using a hard rubber mouthpiece, and for exercise #2 a metal mouthpiece. Is it best to use a hard rubber mouthpiece for Exercise #1?

I think it makes it easier with a hard rubber for this particular exercise…at least for me and with the mp’s I have.
you should try both if you have them and see for yourself.
