Hi Johnny, I’ve been looking at your site for a little while now, hats off, you’re doing a great job promoting sax playing. You have a lot of cool stuff on your short videos, keep it up.
I’m a 55 yr old forever teenager playing tenor since late teens. Played trumpet in the high school band before that. My parents introduced me to the piano at a young age, but I admit I enjoyed playing outside with my friends more than piano!
I still play regularly (mostly in the winter) and enjoy the Jamie Aebersold play-a-long sets, kinda reminds me of my pre-kids years playing with a band of buddies… above all, I have loads of fun.
My set-up is a Selmer Super action 80 serie 2 (circa 1998) with an Otto Link Super Tone Master 6, Java reeds 2 1/2. True story: The sax was in a Montreal music store display that was vandalized during the 2003 post Stanley cup win from the Canadians. I had an old Selmer Bundy back then and a sax instructor friend, who doubled as a sax tune-up specialist to make ends meet, told me I should bid on this fine horn being sold 1/2 price rebuilt to new condition. I love this horn, it has a very bright sound and has a lot more potential than I do… Wait till next year, I always say!
Next goals, practice, practice, practice…. my altissimo notes really suck. Also, I’m looking for a decent PC mike. Hopefully, I don’t sound as bad in real life compared to my Iphone recordings!!!
Keep up the good work Johnny, I know I will… I’m gonna be amazing by the time I reach 95 or so. 😉
Cheers, Pierre J.
November 3, 2012 at 4:42 am #10472Sorry, a little mistake in the story above…. the sax is 1989 vintage, and the Stanley Cup riot was 1993 in Montreal! Ten years off… who’s counting?
Cheers, PJ
November 3, 2012 at 9:43 am #10476Hey nice story PJ. I love Mont-Tremblant, played the music festival there a few years ago… what beautiful resort.
Ya I remember when the super action came out, I was tempted to get one but hung on to my aelmer mk 6 instead!
Good luck
JohnnyNovember 6, 2012 at 7:01 am #10489If you come to Tremblant again, I own the little brewpub at the base of the mountain. We hold shows during the Blues Festival in the summer. Make sure you drop in and ask for me, we’ll chat sax stuff and sip a cold one (or two).
Cheers, Pierre J.
