My favorite sax solo by far is that out of control solo Johnny Ferreira does on youtube “Rock & Roll Saxophonist” (must have watched that thing a million times!) 2nd would be a tie between the Ventures version of Peter Gunn and the Viscounts version of Harlem Nocturne even if they really aren’t solos…but they are so coooooool! I actually like the solo Meat Loaf does on Hot Patootie Bless My Soul form the Rocky Horror Picture Show! No Jazz for me! Now if i could just figure out how to play some of that Rock-n-Roll!

June 15, 2013 at 7:03 am #11050I loved that Rock-n-Roll Sax that Johnny plays too, it’s just awesome to listen to and watch him play. There’s a lot of great Sax players out there, and we have CDs from Steve Cole, Richard Elliot, Kenny G., etc.. But my wife and I were talking how when you watch Johnny play, there’s just something different about it, can’t quite put my finger on exactly what it is. I think Johnny is more versatile than a lot of Sax players out there.
October 21, 2013 at 11:46 am #11260I would like to see videos on how to ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’ by Brubeck
(your ‘Take Five’ video was great) and ‘Work Song’ by the Natterly Brothers.October 21, 2013 at 1:44 pm #11261Thanks ritamarie, good stuff there.
October 22, 2013 at 4:17 pm #11263I showed the Rock-N-Roll Sax solo by Johnny to the band teacher here who started to teach me musical theory and he was TOTALLY blown away; saying “Now that…..is a Saxophone player.” Night Train by King Curtis is the song that really turned me on the the sound of the Saxophone. I have heard various versions of Night Train over the years but don’t think anyone quite plays it like King Curtis–timeless classic in any era!

April 16, 2014 at 8:42 am #11923Hey Vinny, that’s ok to list your favorite songs to learn… everyone has their own unique list. It’s a very time consuming process, for me anyway, to learn a song, record all the instrument tracks, edit and mix them, write out the musical chart, upload everything to the website for download, record a video and upload to youtube then on my site…..
One song can easily take me a week or more and I usually have several going at all times. But, even if I took this on as a full time job I still wouldn’t have enough time to act upon everyone’s requests!
Hopefully you find a few of mine you like and then find more on other websites out there. There are a lot of them, maybe not saxophone-specific but you can always transpose them from concert pitch to Bb or Eb.April 16, 2014 at 8:49 am #11924AnonymousI find a lot of yours I like
And have quite a few. Sorry to bother you with this information
