HI Johnny what are your thoughts on double emboucher? I play with a double, do you think playing the flute as well has any benefits?

I guess you play clarinet then? It’s played with a double embouchure and many people double on it with sax…as long as you make the transition without a problem it’s fine. I don’t think it has any benefits specifically for the sax though. When I was way younger I played a little clarinet so I could teach some kids but I didn’t keep it up. Flute as well, it requires a lot of air and I found myself getting dizzy every time I played it for a while. So much smaller than a tenor but that’s the effect it had on me…go figure. If you play more than one instrument I think you’ll benefit yourself musically… the flute’s fingering system is almost the same as the sax.

Hi Johnny no I don’t play the Clarinet, would love to play it but no the reason I play will a double emboucnure is a cycling accident some years ago,i lost my front top teeth.and I have a bridge and every time my teeth get any vibration’s from the mp it just hurts like you know what.I started to play the flute after the accident and stopped playing the sax for five years to give my teeth some time to heal. Now I find that I can get the altisimo notes very easily but the bottom notes start to get very thin as I go down past the G octave key off.on both horns.I must be doing something wrong but what?
I just love the sound you have on the tenor would love to have that some day….PS thanks for this site.

Try a rubber pad on your mp, it may reduce the vibration that’s bugging your top teeth.
