Hey bill on second thought Is the palm key for D up on the top of the neck ? There’s a side D than D# which is on my left, also remember I have a alto , by the way are the fingerings identical on all the horns???. Hey bill I saw Stan Gets, Miles dizzy Gillespie , Louie Bellson , Hank Crawford, Bernard Purdie, all great Jazz Heads in their own mediums if you will’

Ah man i got home from a lesson today, and cleaned out the 3 holes used by the palm keys – couldn’t believe the slimy brown sludge that was hanging round the pads! After a cleaned them out – my altissimos on the palm keys came out a lot clearer and louder – jeez

Hey Wayne, Yup all the saxes share the same fingerings. I have the 4 main saxes (Bari, Tenor, Alto, Soprano). The difference is the key the instrument is in. The Bari and Alto are Eb whereas my Tenor and Soprano are Bb. So when I purchase Johnny’s music I can play which ever horn using 1 of the pieces of music he supplies. Very nice!!

The G# key is a common problem with the sax. Johnny has a video on the blog in regards to this problem. When I got my soprano my G# was horribly sticking. What I did (thanks to a recommendation from another member) was take a small piece of sandpaper (grit side down away from the pad) and give it a slight rubbing over the tone hole and waalllah, like new. The biggest problem I had was getting that piece of sandpaper in that tiny space behind the key. Not much space on a soprano sax. LOL

Yes the palm key is on top of the neck. If you use your left hand the 1st key as you roll you hand around the top of the horn is the D key. This should fall somewhere along your heel of the left thumb. Then in order the next key is the D#, and the last key is the F. Of course you need the side key to provide the E and F.

Appreciate it Jake, hey the sandpaper scares me take a dollar bill and with slight pressure on the pad pull the dollar through the tone hole Johnnie had a video out on it I have sprinkled a little bit of Talcum on the dollar as you are pulling it through the tone hole, it puts a slight dust on the pad hence no stick for awhile! I really like that Liebman WHAT CHOPS!!!
