For me I certainly give props to the person that can develop skills to be able to play like the above examples, BUT I don’t find myself enjoying the performance, with no desire for a replay. No inspiration content for me…
Thats a fair point Kevin – practicing etudes is one of the top things for developing technique – the challenge i get out of them is two fold – 1> they are the equivalent of doing s difficult crossword (they really up your game) 2> some of them are so lifeless it makes you up your game trying to inject some spirit into them – imagine being a salesman trying to sell the most boring product in the world and trying to get the customer excited into buying – well thats what we sax players are like, we either sell it to someone or we just play whatever we like
at the end of the day – it’s the players choice of interest, and we’re only here to hopefully give them feedback/support on their playing and not their choice/style of music
