      😎 Hey Johnny,

I met someone today at the local music shop that plays the trumpet and he was talking about the amount of air that has to come from your diaphragm to play the trumpet. While he says the embouchure for the trumpet is quite different, his view was that learning the fundamentals of playing the trumpet can improve your tone to make you a better Saxophone player. Can playing the trumpet improve our Saxophone tone? My son learned to the fundamentals of the trumpet in band class but never got serious with it.

Sure, but you don’t have to play trumpet to improve your sax tone. It’s all the same thing, whether playing brass, woodwind or singing… you need to get your air from your diaphragm. This doesn’t happen over night and many struggle for a while to eventually “get it”. I included some exercises in my ebook to tell if you are doing this properly or not.

I’ve made good use of the exercises in your ebook and it’s helped immensely to say the least 🙂 and also really work on long tones a lot like you show on the lessons here on your home page. That’s the way I felt too, that I don’t have to learn to play the trumpet to improve my Saxophone tone. But his view was that felt it required more from the diaphragm to get a good strong tone on the trumpet than it does on the Saxophone. I, personally, wasn’t totally convinced about that, especially when watching people play Altissimo notes.
